We might witness a notable shift in the pattern later in November and into early December after a warm start to the month in the west and a cold start in the east. The west is likely to experience a colder pattern during the week before and during Thanksgiving, while the east is likely to experience milder air. The week of Thanksgiving may bring showers to the Ohio Valley.

In the west-central and central United States, the pattern shift favors a shift to more winterlike conditions, including significantly lower-than-normal temperatures and the possibility of significant snowfall. The temperature outlook for the next three to four weeks shows the area of equal chance. Systems prefer to move in or near the space between the cold and warm sectors. Although it is impossible to predict whether Kentucky will experience any winter precipitation this far in advance, I am keeping an eye out for the possibility of snowfall in the middle of December. We'll have to wait and see.
