BGP Severe Weather Alert Day 9/5/25

Featured Replies

We are issuing a severe weather alert day for tomorrow, Friday, 9/5/25. The Storm Prediction Center has raised the threat level for a portion of south-central and central Kentucky to a level 2 out of 5.

A strong cold front will seep through Kentucky later on Friday. Scattered strong to severe storms could develop early Friday evening into the overnight as the cold front approaches. The main threat is damaging winds of 58 mph or greater; isolated hail and a tornado can't be ruled out. There will also be the possibility of isolated flash flooding where repetitive storms train over an area. Especially areas that saw heavy rain today.

The Storm Prediction Center has kept parts of central and eastern KY in a Slight Risk (2 out of 5) for severe storms this evening and overnight, while the rest of the state is in a Marginal Risk (1 out of 5).

The main threat will be strong damaging wind gusts; hail can't be ruled out, and even a spin-up tornado. Localized flash flooding will also be possible where we see repetitive storms move over an area, especially in spots that had heavy rainfall on Thursday.
