Today will feature afternoon high temperatures in the low 90s, with heat index values touching 100 in some areas. The heat builds over the weekend, with the hottest weather expected Sunday through Tuesday. Heat index values over 105 will be possible.

A bit of a complicated forecast today as we watch to see how isolated to widely scattered storms evolve today. Storms near Chicago early this morning may survive into our area and break up the heat. It's more likely that the humid air mass in place will develop isolated to widely scattered afternoon storms to provide that break in the heat.

Monday looks drier, and thus we should see higher temperatures and heat indices. Tuesday should stay dry most of the day, bringing a repeat in the heat, but late afternoon and evening we'll see more storms develop as a cool front approaches.
