Notes and observations
• Jefferson County is running a monopoly at the top of the poll. Between X, T, and Ballard, a seventh region school has occupied #1 every week so far. The Tigers are the latest to look down on the rest of the state after handing the Bruins their first defeat of the season. St. X’s Jaxon Coomer drove in all three Tiger runs in last week's battle between #1 and #2. The two teams remain ranked in the top two spots this week, with the order now reversed.
• For the first time this season, McCracken County returns to the familiar territory of the Top 5, a tier they've occupied frequently since the program’s birth over a decade ago. The Mustangs have suffered one loss in-state so far, a 2-1 setback to Trinity. They'll travel to Louisville later in the week to tussle with top ranked St. X and #6 PRP in marquee games.
• The hottest team in the state polished off an unbeaten April and opened May with a pair of victories last week. Boyd County is riding a nineteen game win streak, second longest in the state this season behind Ballard’s recently expired 23 game run.
• 14th District play is in full swing, including a two game split between #8 South Warren and #11 Greenwood. Mikey Coradini spun a complete game shutout for the Spartans in Game 1. SW has already split with Bowling Green, while the Gators engage the Purples tonight and tomorrow night.
• Breckinridge County debuts this week, fresh off a sweep of previously ranked Meade County. The Tigers pitching staff has allowed three earned runs over the last five games.
• The week's other new additions are Boyle County and Henry Clay, who was briefly ranked a few weeks ago. The Rebels’ core starting trio of Caeden Patterson, Luke Parnass, and Kyler Klaunch sport a combined ERA of 1.13.
