Rowan County High School principal reassigned for remainder of the school year

Rowan County High School principal Jordan Mann has been reassigned for the remainder of this school year, per an email sent home to students' parents by the district superintendent.

This happened in the wake of student walkouts that took place two days this week in response to a civil lawsuit in Rowan County courts. The court system is currently hearing a civil case regarding circumstances surrounding an inappropriate relationship between former Rowan County teacher and soccer coach Andrew Zaheri and a 17-year old girl. In 2024 Zaheri was sentenced to 22 years in prison for having a sexual relationship with the student and for taking pictures of the victim with his phone, and now the family of the victim has filed a civil suit alleging that Jordan Mann, as principal, failed to report Zaheri's inappropriate relationship. The suit also alleges that Mann and Zaheri exchanged inappropriate text messages about the relationship.

The superintendent has not yet named an interim principal for the high school.
