Later today, areas of the Ohio Valley are expected to be affected by lines and/or clusters of strong to severe thunderstorms. The region's wide-spreading surface troughing throughout the day may serve as the focal point for the most likely development of intense thunderstorms.

In the afternoon and evening, there is a risk of severe wind and hail with at least some potential for tornadoes due to conditions that may favor the formation of lines or clusters of storms and possibly a few supercell structures, with dew points in the mid-60s and CAPE values between 1000 and 2000 J/kg.

 

 

 

 

I just received the following update from the NWS-Louisville office:

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and evening.

Estimated timing is noon to 8 pm EDT

Gusty winds and marginally severe hail are possible, mainly east of I-65. Gusty winds could cause outdoor items to blow around.

Cloud to ground lightning will threaten outdoor activities

Heavy rainfall could cause ponding on roadways. Overall confidence is high that this event will occur.
