15th Region: Week 11

Week 11 is now over. You could put 1-4 in a bag, shake them up, and then rank them with whoever you pull you if you’d like. Martin County has beaten and lost to Johnson Central and Paintsville. Johnson Central has done the same to those two teams. And now enter Pikeville who has knocked off Paintsville this week, but lost to Martin Co and they were set to play JC tonight before it got cancelled. It should make for a great 15th region Super Regional. I won’t post any games of the week in the 15th because I don’t think any will get played because of the flooding, and my thoughts and prayers are with the region right now. I know a lot of great people out that way that are currently suffering because of the weather. Let’s hope things get back to normal quickly so they can return to normalcy. 

Week 10 Rankings: 

1. Martin County (16-8): The Cardinals opened the week up with a 5 point loss to Paintsville where they only scored 55 points. I’d have thought they’d for sure get beat by Johnson Central, but they bounced back to put up 101 and knock off JC by 12. Parker Watts had a monster game going for 39, and Peyton Davis added in 27 in the win. If I had to pick a favorite right now, I’d choose them as they also post a 10-2 region record so far this year. Martin Co is set to end the regular season with Magoffin County and Pike County Central this week. 

2. Pikeville (14-8): The Panthers have been hot as of late and they started their week off with a 12 point win over Shelby Valley, followed it up with a 5 point win over Paintsville, but then ended the week with a 6 point set back to Holy Cross. Ethan Sykes led the way against SV with 19 points. EB Walters had a nice double double with 12 points and 13 boards. Pikeville was supposed to play JC but that game has been canceled for tonight. Instead, they will wrap the regular season up with Floyd Central on Friday. 

3. Paintsville (18-7): The Tigers had a very busy week. They opened it with a 47 point win over Magoffin County, and then a 5 point win over Martin County. Things were shaping up for a perfect 4-0, but Pikeville had other plans. Pikeville knocked off Paintsville by 5, but then the Tigers rebounded with a 36 point win over Prestonsburg. Brock Woods had a great game against Magoffin with 20 points on 80% shooting. Things slow down for Paintsville as they gear up for district play, as they only play Betsy Lane this week.

4. Johnson Central (14-9): The Golden Eagles had finally flown to the top after a streak of seven games straight won. They quickly crashed back down to life and went 0-2 on the week and started a losing streak. They were knocked off by Martin County by 12 in a game that could’ve gone either way. More head scratching to me though, was their 11 point loss to Pineville at home. Pineville is a 6-10 team in the 13th so I thought they’d have imposed their will in this one. Austin Slone had 30 and Brayden Shepherd had 25 in the loss, but their defense is what they need to see improve. They gave up 101 and 97 in their two losses this week. Their last game of the regular season has them against Belfry at home on Tuesday. 

5. Betsy Lane (16-9): The Bobcats had one of the best weeks in the region. They went 4-0 and all four were against region opponents. They showed they are top of that tier two list. They beat PCC by 11, Belfry by 16, PBurg by 21, and Shelby Valley by 7. Brayden Hall had a great game going for 25 and 5 in the win over PCC. Betsy Lane is set to play Paintsville, Ligon Cogo, and Magoffin County to wrap up this week. 

6. Pike County Central (16-9): The Hawks also had a pretty good week. After their set back to Betsy Lane on Monday, they finished the week winning three straight over Belfry, Ligon Cogo, and Lawrence County in a thriller. In the win over Belfry, Jaden Stewart went off for 30 and 10. He’s one of the best players in this region, if not the best. PCC will finish the regular season up with Phelps, Magoffin County, and a huge showdown with Martin County. 

7. Lawrence County (18-9): The Bulldogs had been rolling but had a terrible week going 0-3. They lost to Wayne WV, Ashland by 15, and then Pike County Central by 2. The Ashland score gives you some hope, but it’s hard to say if that one was out of hand and they subbed late or they actually played with them the entire game. They have a shot to get back in the win column this week with Fairview on the road tomorrow, and then Raceland on the road Wednesday. 

8. Shelby Valley (13-11): Shelby Valley had a less than stellar week going 1-2. They had been on a nice little win streak before the week started. They got upended by Pikeville by 12, and then got knocked off by Betsy Lane by 7. They did get back in the win column at the end of the week with a 29 point win over Mountain Mission School VA. They finish the regular season up with Prestonsburg, Buckhorn, and East Ridge. 

9. Phelps (12-11): Phelps had a slow week but they did go 1-0. They knocked off Fairview by 9. Those stats unfortunately have not been updated yet. The Hornets will look to face East Ridge, Pike County Central, and Morgan County to finish up their regular season. I hope these games get played. 

10. Floyd Central (9-16): The Jaguars started this week off with a 29 point dominating win over East Ridge. That was short lived though, as they dropped a 26 point game to 14th region Perry County Central. Been a lot of up and down for the Jaguars this season. They are set to play Pikeville on Friday if weather permits to end their regular season. 

11. Prestonsburg (11-13): The Blackcats went 2-2 on the week. They started off with a nice 5 point win over Jackson County, then a 17 point win over East Ridge. They fizzled quickly though as they dropped back to back games against Betsy Lane by 21 and Paintsville by 36. Braxton Keathley led the way with 36 against Jackson County, and was a perfect 15-15 from the line. Impressive young man! Prestonsburg will end their regular season with Shelby Valley, and Letcher County Central. 

12. Belfry (8-17): The Pirates went 0-2 this week with losses to Betsy Lane and PCC. They finish the regular season up with Johnson Central, and Tolsia WV. 

13. Magoffin (6-18): Magoffin went 0-2 this week with losses to Paintsville and West Carter. They finish the regular season up with Martin County, PCC, and Betsy Lane. 

14. East Ridge (6-17): East Ridge went 0-2 this week with losses to Floyd Central and Prestonsburg. They finish the regular season up with Phelps, Jenkins, and Shelby Valley.
