Weekend Weather Outlook

Good Morning,

The forecast rainfall amounts and placement have changed very little, and confidence continues to increase. We have issued a Flood Watch for almost all of Kentucky and portions of southern Indiana in effect from early Saturday through midday Sunday. Widespread area, river, and isolated flash flooding are all possible in that time frame.

A couple of new developments. The Storm Prediction Center has introduced a Marginal Risk for severe weather on Saturday, although confidence is low and conditional for actual development. We'll monitor that and include slides if we think that threat may materialize. In addition, we are also becoming concerned about temperatures dropping into the mid teens on Sunday night. Any lingering wet spots could freeze, and black ice could be a problem for the Monday morning commute. Any first responders dealing with water hazards may also have an additional weather element to deal with in the cold.

Conference calls are likely either today, tomorrow, or both. Stay tuned for more information on that.

Good Morning,

A couple of notable changes to the forecast:

1.) Recent model runs have trended the heavy rainfall axis noticeably northward. This now puts the heavy rainfall axis just south of the Ohio River across western and northern Kentucky. Amounts have lessened somewhat for eastern Kentucky. Look for new river forecasts later this morning, which may bring focus to more of the northern river basins.

2.) The northward trend triggered a northward expansion of the Flood Watch into more of southern Indiana. Confidence in amounts is now lowered back to Medium given the change, especially across southern KY.

3.) From our perspective, the severe weather threat remains low, but not zero. Added a slide to address the low confidence threat later Saturday into Saturday night.
