15th Region: Week 7

Week 7 is now over. Martin County won the 15th Region All A and showed they’re the cream of the crop this far in the 15th. Parker Watts, Jaden Stewart, and Braxton Keathley are the big three right now in the region. Prestonsburg came back down to earth after their run they had made. The back half of the rankings is starting to sort itself out as teams play each other. Here is your 15h Region Rankings!

Week 7 Rankings: 

1. Martin County (12-2): The region favorite went 2-0 this week and won the 15th Region All A after a week off due to snow. They ended the Cinderella run of Prestonsburg with a 21 point win, then defeated Paintsville by 17. Parker Watts had 36 and Peyton Davis had 23 in the first win. Watts added 41 in the win over Paintsville on 68% shooting. Watts is making a case for region player of the year. This week they are set to open the All A with Lyon County, then they play Letcher County Central on Saturday. 

2. Pike County Central (9-6): PCC went 2-1 this week. Their first win was a 9 point win over Lawrence County in the finals of their 2A sectional. Jaden Stewart had 32 and 12 in the win. They followed that up with a 12 point win over Johnson Central. Jaden Stewart had another big game with 25 and 12 in the win. Him and Watts are two of the top players in the 15th. They dropped their first game in the 2A state tournament by 21 to LaRue County. This week they are slated to play Belfry on the road Thursday, and Ashland at home on Friday. The Ashland game could be a monster win if they could pull it off. 

3. Paintsville (10-4): The Tigers went 1-1 this week. Their first was a 13 point win over Shelby Valley in the semi’s of the All A. They were led by a very balanced scoring effort in the win. Ethan Cole had 19, Anderson Lauffer with 15, Jase Kinner had 14, and Brock Woods finished with 13. They lost in the 15th region All A finals to Martin County by 17. This week they play Lawrence County at home on Tuesday, and Johnson Central at home on Friday. 

4. Lawrence County (12-4): The Bulldogs had a nice week going 3-1, but did drop a 9 point game to Pike County Central in the 2A sectional. Hayden Perry had 18, and Kaiden Harris had 18 in the loss. They bounced back nicely with a 17 point win over St Joe Central Catholic, a 18 point win over Floyd Central, then a 12 point win over Magoffin County. Lawrence has a busy week with Wayne WV on Monday, Paintsville on Tuesday, and Prestonsburg on Friday. 

5. Johnson Central (6-5): The Golden Eagles went 0-1 on the week dropping a 12 point decision to PCC. Austin Slone had 25 and Brayden Shepherd had 18 in the loss. Only four players total for JC scored, and one of those four only had 2. They’re going to need more production from the supporting cast if they plan on making a run. JC is set to play Shelby Valley Wednesday, Paintsville on Friday, and Lex Cath on Saturday. A very busy week with tons of opportunity. 

6. Pikeville (7-4): Pikeville went 1-0 this week after a 19 point win over East Ridge. The Panthers desperately needed a win to get back to their winning ways. Pikeville has probably the hardest schedule of anyone in the region this week with Harlan County and Ashland Blazer, both games on the road. If they could even win one of these two, it would show that they can compete for the region title. 

7. Phelps (7-6): The Hornets had a really nice week going 2-1. They beat Belfry in a close one by 4. Tyler Weddington had a great game with 21 and 12 in the win. They then got revenge over Prestonsburg as they won by 13 in a game that saw six players score at least 8 points. They dropped their last game of the week, a 1 point heartbreaker to Raceland. This week they are set to play Fairview on Friday at home. 

8. Shelby Valley (8-7): The Wildcats dropped a 13 point game in the semi’s of the 15th Region All “A”. Shelby Valley has a busy week with three games slated. The first, Floyd Central on the road Tuesday, then Johnson Central on the road Wednesday. They finish up with Buckhorn on the road Friday. The Wildcats are the road warriors this week. 

9. Betsy Lane (7-6): The Bobcats have now dropped four of their last five, the latest a 7 point defeat to Somerset Christian School. Betsy Lane desperately needs to get back in the win column this week. They play two games. The first, Knott County Central at home on Tuesday. The latter, a game on the road Friday at Floyd Central. 

10. Prestonsburg (5-7): The Blackcats have came back down to earth after an awesome five game win streak. They lost in the All A semi’s to Martin County, then lost a 13 point set back to Phelps after beating them in double OT the week before. Keathley had 40 in the loss to Martin County on 60% shooting. He will need more help if they’re going to win more games. P Burg looks to get things back rolling this week with Mingo Central WV on Tuesday, Lawrence County on Friday, and Harlan on Saturday. 

11. Floyd Central (6-9): The Jaguars went 1-1 on the week with a win over Powell County and a loss to Lawrence County. This week they play Shelby Valley, Betsy Lane, and West Carter. 

12. Belfry (6-10): Belfry went 0-2 on the week. They lost to Phelps and Cabell Midland WV. This week they play Johnson Central, and Pike County Central. 

13. Magoffin (4-9): Magoffin went 1-1 this week with a win over West Carter and a loss to Lawrence County. This week they play East Ridge and Estill County. 

14. East Ridge (5-10): East Ridge went 1-1 this week with a loss to Pikeville and a win over June Buchanan. This week they play Ridgeview VA, Magoffin County, and Twin Valley VA.
