5th Region: Week 6

Featured Replies

Week 6 was basically a wash in the 5th region, as well as around the state. There were a grand total of 6 games played this week. Green County and Caverna were both able to play in 2 games each, while 11 teams had games postponed or cancelled and were unable to play any games this past week.

Of those 6 games, two games were of major significance. Green County defeated Caverna in the first round of the All A Classic. That game also counted as a district game. Caverna defeated Hart County in a district game last week as well.

Another note of significance, congratulations to Hayden Blakeman of Green County, who during the game semi-final All A game against Washington County became the All-Time leading scorer, passing Green County legend Mike Deaton.

This week, teams return to the hardwood and there are several important games this week. The 17th district has 4 district games on the schedule this week. Most of them feature Fort Knox, with the lone exception being John Hardin at North Hardin.

Bethlehem and Campbellsville will play in the All-A semi-finals on Monday, with the winner advancing to play Green County on Thursday for the right to travel to Owensboro next week and participate in the All A State Tournament.

Laue County will begin play on Friday in the 2A State Championship. They will play the winner of Section 8, which has yet to be determined.

The 19th district has 3 district games on the schedule this week. Bardstown faces Washington County and Thomas Nelson, and then Washington County will also host Nelson County this week. Bardstown also welcomes Ashland Blazer on Saturday. That should be an excellent test for the Tigers.

Taylor County will certainly be the busiest of any team in the 20th district this week, as well as in the region. They return to play with 5 games on their schedule this week. The game I am most interested in though is Marion County at Adair County. Marion is much improved from last year and has already exceeded any expectations that I had for them. I am interested to see how they play against one of the top teams in their district, the region and possibly the state.
