15th Region: Week 6

Featured Replies

Week 6 is now over. This is one of the more boring recaps you will receive because most teams didn’t play a game this week. When there is bad weather, a region that is in the mountains will have most of their games cancelled. Here's to better weather and hoping the games happen. The games I’m mostly looking forward to are the All A semifinals. If Prestonsburg could upset Martin County it would be a great story. We will see if they have it in them.

Week 6 Rankings:

1. Martin County (10-2): The region favorite was off this week due to the weather. Still sitting at 10-2, Martin looks to keep rolling through their regions All A tournament. They have Prestonsburg on Wednesday in the semifinals as they look to end their Cinderella run. They also play Lewis County on Saturday.

2. Lawrence County (9-3): Lawrence was also off this week due to the weather. They have yet to play a game in 2025. This week they will play PCC tomorrow in the 2A, St. Joseph WV on Tuesday, Floyd Central on Friday, and Magoffin County on Saturday. A busy week to get their legs back under them.

3. Paintsville (9-3): Paintsville was also off this week because of the weather. The Tigers play Shelby Valley in the other semifinal of the All A on Wednesday. They close the week out with Magoffin County on the road.

4. Pike County Central (7-5): PCC has been the only team so far to play a game this past week, and they won it 90-57 for the 2A. There were four players who scored double digits, and Jaden Stewart had his usual game leading 18. PCC has a big game with Lawrence Co on Monday in the 2A. They also play J l Burton VA on Thursday.

5. Johnson Central (6-4): The Golden Eagles went 1-0 on the week with a 27 point thrashing over Floyd Central. Brayden Shepherd had a huge game with 31 points and 5 threes. Austin Slone also had a monster game with 29 and 18. When those two play like that, JC will be tough to beat. JC plays Magoffin County on Tuesday, Pikeville on Thursday, and then LCA on Saturday.

6. Shelby Valley (8-6): The Wildcats went 0-1 on the week with a 7 point loss to Mountain Mission School VA. I don’t know anything about them so I can’t comment too much on it. SV looks to get their feet back under them on Wednesday against Paintsville in the All A semifinals. Right now that’s the only game showing on the schedule.

7. Betsy Lane (7-5): Betsy Lane was off this week as well due to weather. The schedule so far is saying some of their games are canceled already this week. Right now, they are on for East Ridge on Thursday, and Somerset Christian School on Saturday.

8. Prestonsburg (5-5): I’m ready to see the Blackcats back in action. They are still riding their five game win streak, and they look to put it on the line against region favorite Martin County in the 15th Region All A semifinals. Can Cinderella keep it going? We will see. They also play Phelps on Thursday, and then Abingdon VA on Saturday.

9. Pikeville (6-4): Pikeville was also off this week due to weather. This week they are listed as playing East Ridge Tuesday, and then Johnson Central on the road Thursday. Pikeville's last game was their 2 point upset loss to Prestonsburg, so I’m sure it’s been a long week off for Pikeville. I think Coach Justice will turn things around.

10. Phelps (5-5): Phelps was also off this week due to weather. This week they are set to play Belfry, Prestonsburg, and then Raceland. If the Hornets can get a few wins this week, they will start to move up the rankings. The Belfry game will be a big time rivalry game.

11. Floyd Central (5-8): The Jaguars went 0-1 with a loss to JC. They play Powell County, Lawrence County, and East Carter this week.

12. Belfry (6-8): Belfry was off this week. They play Phelps and Cabell Midland this week.

13. Magoffin (3-8): Magoffin lost their only game this week to PCC. They play West Carter, Johnson Central, Paintsville, and Lawrence County this week. Very busy week.

14. East Ridge (4-9): East Ridge was off this week. They play Morgan County, Pikeville, Betsy Lane, and June Buchanan this week.
