13th Region: Week 6

Week 6 is in the books! There weren’t a ton of games played this week because of the weather. But we were able to get the 13th Region All A played out. Congrats to Pineville on the big win and good luck to them. I believe they have the 10th region. There are a lot of big time district games this week as we get into the district part of the teams schedules. Things can be very fluid and move a lot this week depending on how the games go. Can’t wait to see this week playout. 

Week 6 Rankings:

1. South Laurel (9-4): The games for the weekend were cancelled, but South won the crosstown rival rematch at home 53-38. They were able to hold North Laurel to a season low 38 points. Their next lowest scoring total? 41 against the Cardinals again. South has now won four straight and are going into a big time district matchup with Corbin on Tuesday on the road. They also play Whitley at home Friday  and Clay County on the road Saturday. Those are two big time district games, and three big time region games. If SL takes care of business and flexes their muscles this week, they can show just how far the gap is between 1 and the rest of the pack. 

2. Harlan County (11-4): The Black Bears went 1-0 this week to push their win streak to three games. They exploded for 101 points and beat McCreary Central by 24 to open up the 2A for the region. Maddox Huff exploded for 37 points and 9 threes. Jaycee Carter added 22 with 4 threes. They have a huge game tomorrow night against Bell County at home in the 2A. This won’t count on the district record, but it will be a huge game to see who’s going to be the front runner for the district. They also play Middlesboro on the road Friday. 

3. Bell County (12-3): The Bobcats have pushed their win streak to nine games now, going 1-0 this week. The latest victim was Whitley County, who the Bobcats beat by 5 to open up the 2A. Scoring was extremely balanced as Jaxon Thomas had 16, Blake Burnett had 15, and Cameron Hall had 14. Blake Burnett also led Bell on the boards with 7. Like previously mentioned, Bell and Harlan Co play tomorrow night in likely the region game of the week. Can’t wait to see how this one turns out. Bell also plays Madison Southern on the road Tuesday to close out their week. 

4. : Clay County (10-4): The Tigers went 1-0 with a big win over Madison Southern on the road. Adon Grubb paced the Tigers with 20, Jerrod Roark added 15, Landon Dezarn had 12, Aiden Wagers 11, and Ethan Jackson finished with 10. A very balanced scoring effort with five in double figures. Clay's win streak is now at four games. They open up this week with OBI at home on Tuesday, and then Harlan on Thursday. The biggest game for them this week is South Laurel at home on Saturday which gives them a chance to shake up the top of the region standings. 

5. Corbin (8-5): The Redhounds were 0 for 3 in getting games played this week. Their games with North Laurel, PC, and Jackson County were all cancelled. The silver lining? They host region favorite South Laurel on Tuesday in a big time district matchup that they’ve been able to prepare for all week. Coach P should have his guys locked in. Corbin also plays Williamsburg in another district matchup Friday. 

6. Whitley County (11-3): The Colonels lost their first game in close to a month this week. They dropped a 5 point game to Bell County to open up the 2A. It was a close game throughout, but Whitley didn’t make enough plays to eventually come away with a win. Whitley was off the week before last, so they too, haven’t won a game in 2025 yet. Whitley is set to have a big week this week as they play Williamsburg at home on Tuesday, South on the road Friday, and Madison Central on Saturday. 

7. North Laurel (8-6): The Jaguars dropped another game this week and scored a season low 38 points against South Laurel. They have now lost four straight and haven’t won a game in 2025. They look to reverse their luck this week as they play Jackson County on the road Friday, then Pineville on Saturday. The Jaguars are in desperate need of a win to turn things around on this 2025 start to the season. 

8. Knox Central (10-3): The Panthers had their game with Barbourville cancelled this week because of the snow. So for now, they still sit with the same record as last week. They have a three game schedule this week that would be big if they could win all three of them. They open with Perry County Central tomorrow at home, OBI at home Thursday, then Scott County on Saturday. Knox could move up a spot or two depending on how they do in these three big games this week. 

9. Pineville (11-4): The Mountain Lions went a perfect 3-0 on the week and didn’t let the snow get them down! They beat OBI by 11 in the semi’s of the All A, then won the 13th region All A with a 9 point win over Barbourville. They also beat Harlan at home by 3. In the 13th Region All A Championship, Ashton Moser led the way with 23 points. Cameron Puckett poured in 18, and Sawyer Thompson was somewhat contained with only 11. Moser also had 11 boards with a big double double. This week Pineville plays Lynn Camp and Barbourville earlier in the week. They play North Laurel on Saturday, and if they can win that won they can show they’re closer to the middle of the pack than realized. 

10. OBI (8-7): The Mountaineers were only able to get one game in this week and they dropped it in the semifinals of the All A to Pineville. Freshman Jacob Rogers had a great game with 26 on 59% shooting. Jason Erhunmwunse also had a decent game with 10 and 8. However, it wasn’t enough to get over the hump. OBI will play Clay on Tuesday, Knox Central on Thursday, and Wolfe County on Saturday. The ability to climb the rankings this week are there!

11. Barbourville (9-5): The Tigers went 1-1 this week with a win over Lynn Camp but a loss to Pineville in the All A Finals. They play Cumberland Gap TN, Middlesboro, and Pineville this week. 

12. Williamsburg (11-2): The Yellow Jackets didn’t play this week. They play Whitley and Corbin this week in two district matchups. 

13. Jackson County (5-8): The Generals were off this week due to weather. They play Lee County, North Laurel, and Harlan this week. 

14. Middlesboro (3-8): The Yellow Jackets were off this week due to weather. They play Barbourville, J. Frank White Academy TN, and Harlan County this week. 

15. Harlan (2-14): The Green Dragons dropped a game to Pineville this week by 3. They play Lee VA, Clay County, and Jackson County this week. 

16. Lynn Camp (2-13): The Wildcats went 0-1 this week with a loss to Barbourville. They play Pineville and Model this week. 

17. Red Bird (0-9): Red Bird was off this past week due to weather. They look to find a win this week against Cordia and Owsley County.
