We've made it through Christmas but we still have holiday tournaments that took place over the weekend. Hazard took they're first loss on the season,  Breathitt County is 2-0 in the South Walton FL holiday tournament, Sickness/Injury bug has hit the Pirate Ship, Perry County Central has gone 2-1 in Thomas Nelson holiday tournament, Estill county has now dropped 6 straight. Knott County Central dropped two out of three over the weekend.

 

Top 10 Movement:

 

1) Hazard (10-1): Madison County GA (61-54 W), Moore (89-60 W), East Hall GA (70-68 L).

This Week: Friday (1/3) vs. Leslie County (District), Saturday (1/4) vs. Madison Central (GRC Tim Short Automotive Classic).

Hazard took they're talents to Gatlinburg Tennessee this weekend to participate in the Smoky Mountain Winter Classic, The Bulldogs got things started off with a 61-54 win over Madison County Georgia. Evin Eversole led the Bulldogs with 29 in the win.

Next up for the Bulldogs would be Louisville Moore and Moore would need more production because Hazard blew past them 89-60. Seth Caudill led the Bulldogs with 36 in the win, Evin Eversole added 25.

Hazard would make it to the championship game of they're bracket, taking on another team out of Georgia, East Hall Georgia out of Gainesville (same hometown as WWE Wrestler, AJ Styles). Back and forth game it would be with the Vikings of East Hall pulling out the thriller, 70-68.

 

2) Breathitt County (6-3): Bayside Academy AL (54-45 W), Arab AL (58-47 W), Good Hope AL (Monday 12/30).

Breathitt County made the long haul to Florida to participate in the South Walton Beach Blowout Tournament. They kicked things off with a 54-45 victory over Bayside Academy AL. 

Bobcats would move on in the winners bracket, taking on Arab Knights also out of Alabama, Breathitt County would go on to win the game, defeating the Knights 58-47.

Breathitt County will take on another Alabama team, Good Hope AL on Monday December 30th.

 

3) Powell County (6-3): Lafayette (64-52 L), Wayne County (79-63 L), Harlan Ind. (No Score?)

The Pirates made the trip to Nicholasville this weekend to take part in the East Jessamine Holiday Tournament. Things didn't go the Pirates way as they fell to Lafayette 64-52 in the opening round of the tournament. Junior Bryson Edwards surpassed the 1,000 point mark.

The Pirates would go on to face Wayne County in the consolation bracket, falling to the Cardinals 79-63. Bryson Edwards led the Pirates with 21, Tucker Ramsey added 20.

Powell County would move on to face Harlan Independent in the last place game this afternoon but as of this post, no score had been reported yet.

 

4) Perry County Central (7-6): Madisonville North-Hopkins (60-37 W), Taylor County (83-53 L), Paris (74-63 W).

This Week: No Games.

The Commodores made the trip to Bardstown to participate in the Thomas Nelson Holiday Tournament. Perry County Central got things rolling in this tournament with a big 60-37 win over Madisonville North Hopkins. Beau Bakun led the Commodores with 26. Trayten Woods added 17 in the win.

After defeating MNH, the Commodores would move on to face Taylor County, who was coming off a 75-67 win over Grayson County, in the semi-finals. Things would not go the Commodores way as they would get rolled by the Cardinals 83-53. Trayten Woods had 15 in the loss. 

Perry County Central would take on the Paris Greyhounds for third place. Perry County Central would bring a 74-63 win back home to Hazard. Trayten Woods led the Commodores with 23. Nick Prater added 19 in the win.

 

5) Knott County Central (4-6): Boyle County (57-47 L), Dixie Heights (46-38 L), Estill County (47-37 W).

The Patriots made the 3 hour trip to Irvine to take part in the Railroad Classic at Estill County. Knott County Central started off with Boyle County and it wouldn't be a good start for the Patriots as they would fall to the Rebels 57-47. 

Knott County Central took on Dixie Heights on Saturday, Knott County Central would see the same outcome as they would fall to the Colonels 46-38. 

The Patriots would take on Estill County on Sunday in the last place game of the railroad classic, Knott County Central would make the trip back to Hindman with a 47-37 win over the Engineers.

 

6) Estill County (6-7): Dixie Heights (61-39 L), Boyle County (68-48 L), Knott County Central (47-37 L).

This Week: Friday vs. Powell County (2A Tournament).

Estill County would open up the railroad classic with Dixie Heights, falling to the Colonels by 21, 61-39.

Engineers would take on Boyle County on Saturday and yet again it would be another blowout loss for the Engineers as they fell to the Rebels 68-48.

Engineers would face a familiar foe on Sunday, in, 14th region opponent, Knott County Central. Knott County grabbed the lead early and didn't let go. Estill County was able to get within 5 but Knott would answer back. Knott County Central would go on to defeat the Engineers 47-37.

This makes 6 straight losses for Estill after they had started the season off 6-1. Estill County has gone winless in they're own tournament within the past two years. 

 

7) Letcher County Central (6-6): Bath County (52-50 L), Trinity Christian (52-47 W), Iroquois (49-35 W).

This Week: Thursday 1/2 vs. June Buchanan (District), Saturday 1/4 vs. Breathitt County.

Letcher County Central took part in the Dan Swartz Classic at Bath County. The Cougars would take on the host school, Bath County, in the opening round of the Dan Swartz Classic. Bath County would edge out the Cougars 52-50. Terry Delaney led the Cougars with 26 in the loss. 

The Cougars would go on to face Trinity Christian Academy out of Lexington in the consolation bracket, and they would come out with a 52-47 victory over the Titans.

Letcher County Central would go on to face Louisville Iroquois  in the consolation final and the Cougars would run away with it, winning 49-35.

 

8 ) Jenkins (9-1): Westland OH (55-46 L), Busch School Seattle WA (67-42 W).

The Cavaliers got to go to Disney World this past weekend to take part in the KSA Events in Orlando FL. Jenkins tipped things off with Westland OH in the opening round of the tournament, Jenkins would fall to Westland OH 55-46.

The Cavaliers would take on The Busch School out of Seattle Washington in the consolation bracket, defeating The Busch School with ease, 67-42.

Jenkins will take on Palm Harbor, FL on Monday at 11 AM.

 

9) Leslie County (7-4): Tupelo Christian Prep MS (54-41 W), Good Hope AL (67-40 L), vs. Arab AL (Monday 12/30 at 3 PM).

This Week: Friday 1/3 at Hazard (District).

The Eagles, along with Breathitt County made the trip down to South Walton FL to take part in the Beach Blowout Tournament. Leslie County faced off against Tupelo MS in the opening round of the tournament, defeating Tupelo Christian Prep MS 54-41. Jayden Hacker led the Eagles with 22 in the win. 

Leslie County would advance on in the winners bracket to face, Good Hope AL. This would be a game Leslie County and head coach John Noble would love to forget as Good Hope would roll to a 67-40 win.

Leslie county will take on Arab AL at 3 PM on Monday.

 

10) Wolfe County (4-7): Washington County (62-59 L), Garrard County (68-46 L), Cumberland County (68-66 L).

This Week: No Games.

Wolfe County made the trip to Lancaster to participate in the Four Banks Classic at Garrard County. Wolfe County would face off against Washington County, Garrard County and Cumberland county. Wolfe County would drop all three games.

Wolfe County would fall to Washington County 62-59 in a thriller. Caleb Creech led the Wolves with 24. Brady Robinson added 17.

Next up for the Wolves would be the host school, Garrard County. Garrard County wouldn't have any issues getting past the Wolfe County, defeating the Wolves, 68-46. Caleb Creech poured in 23 points in the loss.

Finally, Wolfe County would end the Four Banks Classic with a loss to Cumberland County 68-66 in another heart breaking loss for the Wolves. Caleb Creech led the way for Wolfe County with 19. Brady Robinson added 16 in the loss.

 

THE BOTTOM TIER:

 

11) Buckhorn (4-6): June Buchanan (69-23 W), Cordia (73-42 W), Lee County (64-50 W).

This Week: Friday 1/3 at Lee County.

Buckhorn hosted the Buckhorn Lake Christmas Classic and the Wildcats won it going away, defeating all three teams they faced; June Buchanan 69-23, Cordia 73-42 and Lee County 64-50.

 

12) Lee County (3-8): Cordia (63-36 W), June Buchanan (80-42 W), Buckhorn (64-50 L).

This Week: Thursday 1/2 vs. Jackson City, Friday 1/3 vs. Buckhorn.

Lee County would also take part in the Buckhorn Lake Christmas Classic, winning two out of three games, defeating; Cordia 63-36 and June Buchanan 80-42. Lee County would fall to the host school, Buckhorn 64-50.

 

13) Owsley County (2-9): No Games.

This Week: Monday 12/30 at Williamsburg, Thursday 1/2 at Knott County Central.

 

14) Jackson City (2-7): No Games.

This Week: Thursday 1/2 at Lee County, Saturday 1/4 at Somerset Christian.

 

15) Cordia (2-8): Lee County (63-36 L), Buckhorn (73-42 L), June Buchanan (58-30 W).

This Week: No Games.

Cordia picked up they're second win on the season, defeating June Buchanan 58-30 in the Buckhorn Lake Christmas Classic. The Lions, had dropped they're previous two games in the tournament.

 

16) June Buchanan (0-10): Buckhorn (69-23 L), Lee County (80-42 L), Cordia (58-30 L).

This Week: Thursday 1/2 at Letcher County Central, Saturday 1/4 at Model.

The Crusaders are still searching for they're first win on the season. When will it come?
