Mustang Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 The New Richmond Lions (Ohio Div IV) crossed the I-275 bridge at Coney Island and came to Alexandria for a first-ever encounter with our Brossart Mustangs. The two teams played even up basketball in the first quarter with Brossart on top 22-18 after eight minutes. New Richmond overtook the home team and opened a 38-31 short-lived lead with just over two minutes remaining in the half, when the home team caught fire, outscored the Lions 20-3, and took a 10 point, 51-41 advantage to the locker room at halftime. The Mustangs maintained the lead at 63-58 after three periods when Lions Senior Grant Hess took over, scoring 20 second half points , rallying his team past the homestanding Mustangs for the 84-74 victory. Hess finished with 29 points to take game scoring honors. Brady Young and Anthony Wolf put up 17 each, and Preston Dykes added 14. New Richmond improves to 6-3. Hot shooting Mustang sophomore, Drew Steffen, whose 10 second quarter tallies were largely responsible for our late first half rally, led the Mustangs with 15, along with Parker Mulberry. Beckett Kuntz added 14 and Alex Combs 12. The Mustangs fall to 5-3, and will await Louisville Southern to tip-off the new year at 2;30pm on Thursday, January 2nd in Alexandria.
