Nicholas County has been added to this advisory

I just received this from the NWS-Louisville office:

Good Morning,

The precipitation will come in two waves today, and given the cold air, mostly in the form of snow, but rain mixing in at times is still likely. The initial wave is starting to work into the area from the north to the south. This round doesn't have much moisture to work with so other than some festive flakes and making the ground wet, there could be a few roofs that get a light dusting.

Expect a bit of a lull from about midday into the mid afternoon, then the second stronger wave arrives late afternoon/early evening. In time for the evening commute. We went ahead and issued a Winter Weather Advisory for our counties along the I-75 corridor to a few counties to the west. Given that this is the first snow of the season, and while roads are not expected to become slick this afternoon/evening, gusty winds of 25 to up to 35 mph will reduce visibility, especially in heavier snow showers.

Temperatures most of the day will be above freezing but overnight temperatures will slowly fall to just a few degrees below freezing, especially towards the east into the Blue Grass. Grassy and elevated surfaces are likely where we will see snow accumulate and depending on how fast the snow falls, that will determine how much snow most will get. Expect most to see a coating to up to an inch but locally there could be some higher amounts getting close to 2 inches.

Snow looks to diminish from the NNW to the SSE after midnight with the far eastern areas of our County Warning Area holding on to some snow showers towards daybreak.

Overall, impacts are minimal given the above freezing air temperatures for most and the above freezing ground and pavement temperatures. But with this being the first snowfall of the season and the potential of near whiteout conditions from gusty winds, felt it was better to advise people with a Winter Weather Advisory.

Thank you and if there are any questions or concerns, do not hesitate contacting the office.

Sincerely
NWS Louisville
