??Jason’s Jewels??

Nothing Was The Same

Is there a bigger story in the NFL right now than Jayden Daniels and the resurgent Washington Commanders sitting at 4-1 atop the NFC East?

Yeah, yeah, I know it is still early and we are only heading into Week 6.  I recognize that.

However, this kid has been electric and the Commanders have been down for quite some time.

I’m not saying they are going to win the Super Bowl or even make the playoffs.

I am saying that they have found their QB and he is off to an amazing start.

Through the first 5 weeks he has thrown for 1,135 yards with a 77% completion percentage.   4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions while averaging 227 yards a game passing.

He has also rushed for 300 yards at 5.3 yards per carry.  He’s ran for 4 touchdowns and is averaging 60 yards a game rushing.

If he is only supposed to become better as he gains experience then we may as well strap in and get ready to watch this kid take off.

He seems to be the real deal.

He has a huge test this week as the Commanders will take on the Ravens of Baltimore and Lamar Jackson.

Two of the hottest teams in the NFL will meet in Baltimore and Lamar looks to move to 22-1 against NFC teams for his career.

Vegas isn’t giving the Commanders a chance in this one as the Ravens are -6.5 favorites to win the game.

Either way Jayden Daniels has arrived and the winner of this game may have an inside track on the MVP award this season.

Lamar is the third favorite to win MVP and Jayden is the fifth favorite to win MVP.

So yeah, the winner of this game will get a nice MVP bump.

I expect this game to be the most entertaining game of the weekend.   Two less than average defenses trying to contain two offenses playing some of their best football right now.

Yessir!!   I’ll be watching this one for sure!

Hopefully.  I don’t have the Sunday Ticket.

Do right by us, CBS.  Make this the Game of the Week.  ??

I’d be remiss to not speak on Sam Darnold and his comeback season.

The Vikings of Minnesota are one of the two remaining undefeated teams along with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Yes, the Minnesota defense and Brian Flores deserve a ton of credit for how well the Vikings are playing right now.

At the same time Sam Darnold is showing that he is more than capable of playing QB and leading a team to success.

Again, it is just Week 6 and the season can still go either way for them.

It has to be noted at this point of the season that Sam Darnold is playing some of the best football of his life and his team is winning as well.

Whether or not he can be trusted to make a deep playoff run remains to be seen so stay tuned and let’s see if Sam Darnold has truly resurrected his career.  Hopefully this is a sign of things to come for him.

Without further ado we shall jump right into the team rankings.

REAL TEAMS:

Kansas City Chiefs- Mahomes is still playing like crap and winning. Winning is all that matters.  They are the best team and organization in the NFL right now and their product proves this every week.

Minnesota Vikings- Brian Flores has this defense tuned in and Sam Darnold is solidifying his relationship with Justin Jefferson every week.

Buffalo Bills- on the struggle bus the last two weeks but it was Baltimore and Houston on the road.  They should be fine.

Baltimore Ravens- have won three in a row and seem to be hitting their stride.  Big game coming up against the 4-1 Commanders.

Houston Texans- sitting at 4-1 in the easiest division in the NFL right now.

Washington Commanders- Jayden Daniels!

Detroit Lions- had a BYE week this week.

Green Bay Packers- just something about this team.

Atlanta Falcons- they beat the Buccaneers on Thursday and I still have the Bucs as a REAL TEAM.  Atlanta has earned this spot as Kirk Cousins threw for 509 yards and 4 touchdowns last Thursday in a very entertaining game.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers- the Bucs lost to Atlanta on Thursday and they gave this game away at the end of the game.  They didn’t lose because of Baker Mayfield.  We’re getting close to a Birdman “put some respect on my name” moment for Baker Mayfield.  He is playing some good football right now.

FAKE TEAMS:

Seattle Seahawks- I expected more from the NFC West and it has been one letdown after another with these guys.  Losing to the Giants at home tells me that you are not REAL.

New York Jets- I believe Aaron Rodgers is washed and that the Jets won’t make the playoffs.  Their defense is still stronger than most though.  Stay tuned.  Welp, just saw that they have fired their head coach, Robert Saleh.   This season is all on Aaron Rodgers now.  Good luck with that.

Pittsburgh Steelers- I love me some Justin Fields but after this last game against the Cowboys all I hear is folks saying Russell Wilson should be back soon.  If they switch QBs now…..I don’t know.  Not feeling it just yet.  The QB limbo makes me put them as FAKE TEAM.  For now…..

Cincinnati Bengals- if they lose to the Giants this week they will be relegated despite their talented roster.

Indianapolis Colts- these guys are in QB purgatory.  If they start Flacco they can stay a FAKE TEAM.  If they start Richardson, I’m relegating them.

Denver Broncos- I can’t lie, they’ve won 3 games in a row and while their defense has me wanting to make them a REAL TEAM, their offense keeps them as a FAKE TEAM.   For now……

Los Angeles Chargers-BYE WEEK

Dallas Cowboys- lackluster win over the Steelers on Sunday Night.  I need to see more and those injuries on defense are still hurting them.

Philadelphia Eagles- BYE WEEK

New York Giants-huge win over Seattle.  On the cusp of being a REAL FAKE TEAM this week but decided to show a little love as Daniel Jones appears to be improving slightly.  They should get Malik Nabers back this week also.

Chicago Bears- is this the best division in the NFC?  Say what you want about Caleb. This Bears defense seems legit enough to buy him time to keep improving.

New Orleans Saints- I guess they won their Super Bowl this year when they beat Dallas. Haven’t won a game since. ??‍♂️

Arizona Cardinals- I gave them a week to prove they weren’t a REAL FAKE TEAM and they delivered with a comeback victory against the San Francisco 49ers.

San Francisco 49ers- not sure what happened against Arizona in the second half but these ain’t last year’s Niners.

REAL FAKE TEAMS:

Miami Dolphins- they need Tua.

New England Patriots- still missing Tom Brady.

Cleveland Browns- Deshaun Watson

Tennessee Titans- arguably the worst team in the NFL right now.

Jacksonville Jaguars- finally got a win but it still doesn’t mean much.  Not yet anyways.

Las Vegas Raiders- benched Gardner Minshew. Fired Davante Adams.  These boys are in disarray.  Sucks because I like Antonio Pierce.

Carolina Panthers- can we say it isn’t Bryce’s fault yet or is it still too early?

Los Angeles Rams- just way too injured right now.

I mentioned the Atlanta/Tampa Bay game on Thursday Night last week as it was a highly entertaining game.

That game contained my Underdog of the Week choice of Tampa Bay at +2.5 and I sprinkled the money line as well.

The game played to my favor for 58 minutes.  Those last two minutes ruined my Underdog pick as Tampa Bay fumbled deep in Atlanta territory on one possession and on the next possession a holding penalty moved them out of field goal range so it remained a 3 point game.

Atlanta then drove down the field and got their field goal to send the game to OT.  Once in OT they walked it off with a touchdown pass to KhaDarel Hodge.

So yeah, hit a bad beat there which brings my Underdog of the Week record down to 3-3 against the spread and 2-4 when sprinkling the money line.

I’ve been looking far and wide and this week’s Underdog of the Week is going to be interesting.  I do think there is a team that the spread is wrong on and that is the Denver Broncos vs the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Broncos are getting 3 points as a +3 underdog AT HOME against the Los Angeles Chargers.

This Denver defense is legit so I like them at home against the Chargers.  Anyone who knows me knows that I am a sucker for Home Dogs.  Give me the Broncos spread(+3) and money line(+134).

As for my Lock of the Week………

Shew….this week is disgusting.

Vegas is going to make some money this week.

Last week my Lock of the Week was the Minnesota Vikings money line(-148) against the Jets and while they made me sweat to the very end, the Vikings  emerged victorious to pull me off my losing streak and bring my Lock of the Week record to 2-3-0 for 2024 and 17-7-1 overall.

Feels good to be off the losing streak.

Now, let’s start a winning streak.

As I mentioned this week is tough and will take me out of my comfort zone.  I usually want to take a home team as my lock.

This season has been nuts.  Crazy things have happened.

“Underdogs of 7+ points have started the season 4-0 straight up, the first time that dogs of 7+ are above .500 SU through three weeks since 1956, per Action Network!”

So what am I going to lock in this week????

Give me a road team favored by -6.5 points.  The Atlanta Falcons over the Carolina Panthers.  Lock it up.

The Panthers defense is putrid.  They’ve given up more points than anyone in the NFL so far.  They have lost 4 games by 37 points, 23 points, 10 points and 26 points.

Yes, this season is drunk as hell so far but surely the Falcons can win by a tuddy and cash this ticket for us.  Right?  Right?  Right?!?!?!

Just entered my wager and hit submit.  Let’s go Dirty Birds!!!!!!!

Falcons it is at -6.5 for my Lock of the Week.

And as always I suggest locking it in as early as possible as these lines will likely move by Sunday and even half of a point can make a difference.

That’s all I got this week!!!!

Thank you for reading ??Jason’s Jewels??!!!  Be on the lookout for a podcast episode soon!

Y’all be easy!!!✌?
