DevilMayCare
Week 5 Headlines • Alexander Takes The Fight To Warhawks • A Rolling Stone Faster Than A Speeding Bullitt • Male's Heart And “Sowells” First Team All-Watchlist Austin Alexander (Cooper, DE/TE) It took a minute to get his teeth into the game, but once he did, Alexander picked the bones clean. In fact, his whole season was in need of a spark on the offensive side of the ball. Mission accomplished, as he caught nine passes for 165 yards and three scores in a primetime match-up with Great Crossing. Each of his three touchdown grabs demonstrated a different dimension of his offensive skill set. #1 - Crisp route running and run after catch while evading multiple tacklers. #2 - Torching a DB and catching the ball in stride on a go route. #3 - Channeling his inner power forward and posting up his man to high point the football. All that from a 240+ pound future ACC edge rusher, who by the way, complimented his offense with a handful of tackles, including a couple for loss. Season to date: 15 tackles | 4 sacks | 21 catches for 334 yards and 4 TDs Second Team All-Watchlist Cortez Stone (Central, RB) The aesthetic is a throwback to the 70s and 80s running back heyday of 'student body right' and the countless blades of natural grass left in their wake. Stone cutting and gliding over the lawn at Central High School is one of the most beautiful sights you'll see this season, unless you're standing on the opposing sideline. He gashed Bullitt East for 165 yards and three touchdowns, two of which came on long runs originating from the same play, sending him off left tackle to daylight. When he takes a pitch and you think you know what's coming, he sets his feet for a halfback pass and delivers a spiral for a touchdown on the first attempt of his career. He accounted for all four Central scores. Season to date: 70 carries for 631 yards and 9 TDs | 1 passing TD Highlights: vs. BEast Third Team All-Watchlist Isaac “Spike” Sowells (Male, OL/DL) There's no confusion over which Dawg runs the yard. The only question is, how many? When Male runs off “Spike's” backside, acreage comes in bunches. Chayce Burton ran for 120 of his 203 yards on two carries that went Sowells’ way against Trinity. Sadly, pancakes are not an official stat kept by the KHSAA. Season to date: Male ranks #3 in 6A in rushing yards per game on 7 per carry | 10 tackles | 2 sacks Honorable Mention Deuce Bailey (Bowling Green, QB) The first of his three touchdown passes against Central Hardin was the 100th of his career. After a little research, I'm pretty sure he's BG's all-time leader in that category. He added a fourth score with his legs to help crush the Bruins. Season to date: 79/125 for 1,267 yards and 17 TDs with 2 INTs | 112 rushing yards and 2 TDs Connor Hodge (Christian Academy of Louisville, ATH) Totaled 362 yards of total offense - 227 passing/135 rushing - and two rushing touchdowns, plus a defensive pick against Ryle. It was all in vain, as the Centurions dropped their second straight game. Season to date: 109/158 for 1,364 yards and 13 TDs and 5 INTs | 371 rushing yards and 6 TDs | 2 INTs Jack James (Paducah Tilghman, QB) Threw for 309 yards and four touchdowns, plus another on the ground against Hopkinsville. He needs three more touchdown passes to break Sindelar's career record. Season to date: 124/186 for 1,629 yards and 18 TDs with 4 INTs | 4 rushing TDs Brady Atwell (Owensboro Catholic, QB) Found running room scarce against Henderson County, but passed for 312 yards and three scores. Season To Date: 81/132 for 1,287 yards and 19 TDs with 4 INTs | 303 rushing yards and 8 TDs Jeremiah Jones (Murray, ATH) The 6’5” future Cornhusker is working on three straight 100+ yard receiving games after lighting up Christian County for 174 yards and three touchdowns on 12 receptions, career highs across the board. Season to date: 29 receptions for 499 yards and 5 TDs | 49 tackles | 3 sacks | 1 INT Highlights: vs. Christian County
