??Jason’s Jewels??

Nothing Was The Same

The start of this NFL season is bipolar disorder without medication.  Straight manic phase.

Nothing in this season makes sense at all and fortunately Jason’s Jewels is here to try to make sense of this mess.

I had plans to start my Real Teams, Fake Teams and Real Fake Teams list and as of today I don’t know who is real.

Checking the list from today through the end of the season is bound to produce more mania as everyone is looking fraudulent right now.

Well, not everyone, just most of them.

Either way, that particular list will be changing weekly.  I guarantee it.

Anyways, how bout them Cowboys????

Bang, bang Niner Gang???

Vegas, Baby!!!

Who Dey!?!?!?!?!?

I should probably leave the Cowboys alone since they lost to a team that should end the season as a Real Team but is currently a Fake Team.  Other than the way they looked against New Orleans and for three quarters against Baltimore they are a 1-2 team that has some talent.

They just have issues.  I don’t know what those issues are just yet but their defense looks nothing compared to last year’s defense.

At least not yet.

The Ravens of Baltimore ran the ball 45 times out of 60 total plays as Derrick Henry had his first truly good game of the season as a Raven.

When it gets colder those Derrick Henry runs are going to be painful for the opposition.

That is if the Ravens can stay healthy and keep their season on track.

With the fifth toughest schedule in the NFL they cannot make anymore mistakes like they did against Las Vegas.

Yeah, Las Vegas.  The same team that came from behind to beat the Ravens in Week 2 had a letdown game of the ages against the lowly Carolina Panthers and the Red Rifle Andy Dalton as Carolina bumrushed Las Vegas 36-22 and it really wasn’t that close.

Andy Dalton was named the starter in Carolina for Week 3 after Bryce Young was benched.

Dalton became the first QB in 2024 to throw for 300 yards and 3 touchdowns in game.

That statement alone should back up my first sentence of this article.

Week 3 did nothing to quell my concerns of the lack of offense plaguing the NFL right now.

The defensive coordinators have the upper hand right now so I will continue to expect more running and less passing.

The fan in me loves seeing smart football being played.  Good, smart football is fun to watch regardless of who is playing and is easily enjoyable.

The fantasy footballing, gambler in me hates seeing all this defense and is ready for some excitement.

Don’t get me wrong, watching offenses scheme to overcome a stout defense is fun to watch.

I just wish 51 year old Andy Dalton wasn’t the only one capable of throwing for 300 yards and 3 touchdowns in one game.

At least Lamar is still entertaining.

Oops, my bad.  Slipped up and mentioned Lamar.  Won’t do it again.

Moving on.

Other upsets that shouldn’t have happened include the Giants beating the Browns and the Rams beating the 49ers.

Malik Willis rolling back into Nashville and making the Titans look incredibly stupid also happened as well.

Shout out to Malik Willis also.  The Titans gave up on him and drafted Will Levis as his replacement.

Malik made the Titans look silly in their decision yesterday as he played a masterful game behind the center while Levis was sacked 8 times and had a total of 3 turnovers.  Meanwhile,  Malik was 13/19 for 202 yards and a touchdown and also ran 6 times for 73 yards and a touchdown.

? to Malik Willis…..he’d be my Player of the Week if I did that sort of thing.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are 3-0 and while I said last Wednesday on the Beyond the Game show(which is on 93.9 FM on Wednesdays at 6pm, live on YouTube on the Beyond the Game channel at 6pm on Wednesdays as well as in podcast form the following day on Apple Podcasts) that I don’t think they make the playoffs I do have to say I am extremely happy for Justin Fields and his 3-0 start to the season.  Maybe the Steelers will take the playoff spot I had reserved for the Bengals.

The Bears gave up on Justin Fields and so far he has managed to keep Russell Wilson holding the clipboard as the Steelers continue to roll along.

They don’t have Justin doing too much out there and so far he has done a good job of game managing the Steelers to victories.

How long it holds up remains to be seen but for now we will enjoy the rebirth of Justin Fields.

This season is off to such a weird start that I may as well jump right into Real Teams, Fake Teams, Real Fake Teams.

REAL TEAMS:

Buffalo Bills-looking like the best team in the NFL.  Huge game against Baltimore this week.  The outcome will not affect their status.  The Bills look legit.  Get your Josh Allen MVP futures in along with your Bills Super Bowl futures.  Yesterday’s price is not today’s price.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Houston Texans

New York Jets

Kansas City Chiefs

Philadelphia Eagles

Minnesota Vikings

Detroit Lions

Green Bay Packers

Seattle Seahawks

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

New Orleans Saints

FAKE TEAMS:

Baltimore Ravens-could become a real team with a win over Buffalo this week.  The Raiders loss is a big stain.

Washington Commanders-could become a real team with one more victory.  Not sure if I should believe in them just yet.  Gonna plant them here for now.  Love me some Jayden Daniels though.  Stay healthy, kid!!!

Los Angeles Chargers

Denver Broncos

Dallas Cowboys

Chicago Bears

Atlanta Falcons

Arizona Cardinals

Los Angeles Rams

San Francisco 49ers

REAL FAKE TEAMS:

Miami Dolphins-not knowing when Tua is coming back along with Skylar Thompson as the starting QB is not a good look.  Nevermind that Thompson left the game and they brought in Tim Boyle as his backup.  They better get Pro Bowl QB Snoop Huntley out there!!!!

Cincinnati Bengals-the Bengals look bad so far to start the season.  They played Kansas City tough for sure but losses to New England and now Washington at home make them look really bad right now.  ?

New England Patriots

Cleveland Browns

Indianapolis Colts

Jacksonville Jaguars

Tennessee Titans

Las Vegas Raiders

New York Giants

Carolina Panthers

Now remember this list is incredibly fluid and will likely look different each week.

Especially with this season off to a wild start and not resembling much of what we watched last year.

The Lock of the Week for Week 3 was the New Orleans Saints at -1.5 over the Philadelphia Eagles.  Talk about a sweat becoming a bad beat.  The Saints let me down at the end of the game as they let Dallas Goedert have the game of his life against them.  A 61 yard reception to set up the game winning touchdown capped a 10 reception, 170 yard day for Goedert as the Eagles pulled off the win without AJ Brown and Devonte Smith.

That drops me to 1-2-0 on the season for my Lock of the Week and 16-6-1 overall.

This week I am going to try to ride a hot team once again.  I never learn a lesson.

Yep, the aforementioned Pittsburgh Steelers are on the road in Indianapolis this week and I have them locked in at -1.5 over the Colts.

I like this Steelers defense against a shaky Anthony Richardson despite this being a road game for the Steelers.  I like their chances here and hopefully I can get back on a winning track with my Locks of the Week.

As always lock it in early to avoid line movement.  I could see this one closing at -2.5 or -3.

My Underdogs of the Week last week were the Minnesota Vikings against the Houston Texans at +2.5 and the Arizona Cardinals at +3 against the Detroit Lions.  I did sprinkle the money line on both teams.

The Vikings delivered in a major way while the Cardinals weren’t able to cover the spread.   That moves my Underdog of the Week picks to 2-2-0 on the season.  My Money Line Sprinkles are now 1-3.

My Underdog of the Week is going to be the Minnesota Vikings at +2.5 against the Green Bay Packers.  Yes, this money line will be sprinkled.

Once again, I like this defense of Minnesota to continue to confuse their opponents.  Sam Darnold and Justin Jefferson seem to have enough chemistry to put points on the board and this is a revenge game for Aaron Jones.

There is a chance Jordan Love returns and even if he does I still like the Vikings in this one.  At the same time I am not locking this in until Sunday as we await the news about Jordan Love.  I’d love to get this at a higher number if possible.

That’s all I have for this week!  Thank you for reading ??Jason’s Jewels?? this week.  Be on the lookout for a podcast release this week as well.
