??Jason’s Jewels??

The NFL season kicked off this past weekend and with their return that means all football has returned to the hot fields of the last days of summer.

High school football is going on four weeks in, college football is going on to week three and the NFL is moving on to week two.

The things we have learned so far in the NFL  are that the Lamar Jackson haters are in mid season form, the Dallas Cowboys aren’t given respect and overreaction season is in full bloom.

I gotta give it to the Lamar Jackson haters.  They are a persistent bunch.

Has Lamar had struggles in the playoffs?

Absolutely.  Who hasn’t besides Patrick Mahomes?

Does Lamar throw the ball with surgical precision like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Patrick Mahomes?

Of course not.  He is one of the greatest athletes to ever play quarterback and if you aren’t taking advantage of his insane athleticism then you are just stupid.

Is he a “running back” who plays QB?  Sure.  Even that’s fine if that makes you feel better.

That running back who plays QB is well on his way to becoming the best dual threat QB ever and while he will likely never see the success that Steve Young had he has an opportunity to shine brighter as an individual player if he can stay healthy and stay on the field.

I’m sure LeBron James fans can recognize his greatness despite his inability to consistently win rings.

After all, winning rings means nothing if you can manage to play longer than your peers.

I’m not going to dominate these pages with Lamar praise.

In fact after this post I probably won’t mention him much this season.

I think Lamar has a good 3-5 year window left to get a ring or two.

I know that won’t be enough for his haters and that’s unfortunate.

It’s all good though.  They better hope the running back who plays QB never figures out how to beat the Chiefs.  Seeing as how he is now 20-3 against the NFC there is no doubt in my mind that he wins that Super Bowl ring if he can get past Mahomes.

Enough about Lamar though.  Let’s get a quick recap of this weekend in football.

The Cincinnati Bengals dropped their home season opener to the Patriots, 18-10. I pulled this info off of RJ Bartleson’s Facebook page that Zac Taylor is 1-10 the first two weeks of the season as the Bengals head coach.

Bengals fans aren’t going to panic after week one but you can definitely feel the frustration kicking in with their repeated early season failures.

Joe Burrow seemed like a shell of himself and while I hate to speculate about how healed his wrist is the fact that he didn’t throw the ball downfield much was cause for concern for some fans post game.

There’s no time for the Bengals fans or players to ponder long about what happened last week.  Next up for the Bengals is none other than Patrick Mahomes and the two-time defending champion, Kansas City Chiefs.

4:25pm on Sunday, September 15.  Do not miss it as Joe Burrow is one of the few QBs in history to have a winning record against Patrick Mahomes.

The Houston Texas began their season with a win on the road over the Indianapolis Colts and Anthony Richardson.

Stefan Diggs had two touchdowns and Joe Mixon had 159 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Listen, if Diggs and Mixon are going to step in immediately and make this kind of impact then I fully expect the Texans to make a deep run into the playoffs this season.

I really wish my cousin was here to see it.  He’d be so proud.  RIP Jody Rowe.

The Dallas Cowboys manhandled the Browns which has prompted the overreaction to DeShaun Watson having a bad start to the season.

I am no Watson apologist and I never will be.

I think at one time he was a good QB and I think he still has it in him to be a good QB.

I am not ready to crown Baker Mayfield as the better QB between the two after one week when Watson played against what is likely to be a top 5 defense in the league and Mayfield played against one of the worst pass defenses in the league.

That doesn’t mean people are wrong when they say that.

Just know that I am not prepared to say that after one week of action.

Even more so when disrespecting the Cowboys is the more popular thing to do than to just sit back and let things play out and then judge after we have a body of work to look at.

History shows both QBs have had some good days and some really bad days.  As of now I don’t expect that to change much going forward.

The San Francisco 49ers looked good last night even though they knew they weren’t going to play Christian McCaffrey and hid it from everyone.

All good though.  Backup Jordan Mason showed that their offense won’t skip a beat without CMC and their defense looks legit once again as they stifled the great Aaron Rodgers all night.

Rodgers and Garrett Wilson look to have some decent chemistry to start the season and I expect Rodgers to make Wilson a superstar if they can both stay healthy.

I’m not sold they will win the AFC East but as I have stated it is way too early to make bold conclusions about what looks to be another insane NFL season.

The Buffalo Bills got past Arizona after a rocky start to that game.  Now the closing line for this game was -6.5.  Fortunately for me I locked them in at -5.5 early in the week.  As a result I am now 1-0-0 this season for my Lock of the Week.

Shout out to the Bills for holding on at the end for your boy.  Those back door bad beats can be brutal.

Josh Allen still looks to be a top 3-5 QB in the league easily and after watching the QB play across the NFL after this past week he’s in my top 3 with Mahomes and Lamar.

I’ve seen and heard Bills fans say that he doesn’t have anyone to throw to at the moment.

In time that will work itself out.  Meanwhile they still can be above average offensively behind the legs of Allen and James Cook.

Rocky start to the season for the Bills but they got the win and I expect them to be the same problem as always.

We get the Bills and Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football and that should be a fun game to watch.

Speaking of the Dolphins, the Tyreek Hill incident is yet another disturbing trend in America regarding excessive police force in situations where it is unnecessary.

In true Scottie Sheffler form, Hill was detained and handcuffed by the police on his way to the stadium, released, played and had 7 receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown as the Dolphins came from behind to defeat the Jaguars, 20-17.

The Dolphins are an interesting team to me because of their potent offense.

None of this will matter if they can’t play defense good enough to win their division.

Jordan Love is out 3-4 weeks with an MCL Sprain suffered late in the Packers loss to the Eagles.

The Eagles still look strong and if the Packers can get Love back and scrape away a win or two with Malik Willis as the starting QB then I fully expect Jordan Love to be able to lead them to the playoffs.

I don’t expect them to beat Detroit but making the playoffs may still be on the table for the Packers when they return to full strength.

As I mentioned earlier the Buffalo Bills did cover my Lock of the Week last week as they defeated Arizona 34-28 to cover the -5.5 point spread I was able to lock them in at.

I am 1-0-0 on the season so far and 16-4-1 overall with my Locks of the Week.

This week I have locked in the Dallas Cowboys at -6.5 at home over the New Orleans Saints.

My Underdog of the Week last week was the Baltimore Ravens at +3 against the Kansas City Chiefs and I lost that cover by a couple of toes.

That moves me to 0-1-0 on my Underdog of the Week picks.

This week as I try to move to .500 on my Underdog of the Week choices I am going with the New England Patriots at home against the Seattle Seahawks at +3.5 for New England.

And yes, I will be sprinkling that money line as well.

Please remember to gamble responsibly if tailing my picks.  ✊?

That’s all I have for this week.  Thank you for reading this week’s version of ??Jason’s Jewels?? and be sure to check out my ??Jason’s Jewels?? podcast as I released Season 2 Episode 1 today as well!!!!

Please tune in and thank you for your time.  It is always appreciated!!!   Y’all be easy!!!! ✌?
