McCreary Central 65 Southwestern 60 2OT

Featured Replies

Good win for Coach Jone's bunch. I heard that McCreary has some really good players in the middle school and with Watts could make them very competitive in the 12th for several years.

I'm assuming all players were there for Southwestern.

Edwards, Dalton, Sears all played. Gialdini (sp) played huge for Southwestern and knocked down several threes.

Southwestern led by ten at the half and by eleven in the third before McCreary charged back to tie it at 46 with seconds to play. A shot was missed by Southwestern, but the rebound was a "jumpball," with the possesion arrow favoring the Warriors. With .5 seconds left, a lob at the rim was tipped up and bounced on the bounced on the back rim, then side of the rim before coming off and sending it into overtime. Then, the Raiders up 52-51 with the ball, senior guard Josh Bartley was called for a five-second count. That turned the ball over and on the next Southwestern possesion, Gialdini drilled a three to give Southwestern a two point lead. McCreary countered and tied the game up at 54. Then, with eight seconds to go, Southwestern's Dalton drove the lane, was stripped of the ball and Phillips for McCreary ran it back up the floor and pulled up for an 8-footer and missed it off the side-iron. Double overtime started well for the Raiders as they quickly raced out to a three-point lead and the Warriors never recovered. McCreary led 65-57 with seconds to go and Dalton his a three to give Southwestern 60 as the time expired.

McCreary could have won this game in regulation, but nine missed layups during the game cost McCreary.

So how is this district seed gonna come out now?

Well, if Southwestern would have won today and they lose their game at Wayne later this year, it would have been a "coin toss" on who would be #1. Now, since Southwestern lost, whoever wins the game at Wayne next week will automatically be #1 seed.

My projection:

#1 Wayne 5-1

#2 Southwestern 4-2

#3 McCreary 3-3

#4 Monticello 0-6

You think Wayne will beat SouthWestern?

I saw Wayne play Corbin and if that is the top team McCreary has to beat then the district is theirs. I was not impressed at all by the Cardinals. Once they get down they seem to give up a bit.

Well, Southwestern won by 8 over Wayne and Wayne beat McCreary by 10 at Wayne. Then, at home for McCreary, Wayne couldn't miss from the outside and they won again. Wayne has off games, and then good games. Apparently, they play great, bad, great, bad, great bad in that order. :p

Keep them off the glass and make them run up and down the floor and the Cards are easy to beat. They only play 6 guys. I say the Raiders press them and win with ease in the district. I think SW will press them as well and be the number one seed. Finals will be SW and Wayne.

McCreary doesn't rebound well against Wayne. I have no idea why though. Their 6'7 kid plays the perimeter. If the Raiders rebound the ball and play perimeter defense, then they can blow the doors off of anyone in the 48th. Until they do that, they'll be third. I, personally, expect a McCreary/Southwestern or McCreary/Wayne matchup. McCreary historically plays well in the tournaments, or atleast in the ones they have opportunities in.
