13th Region Week 13 Rankings and Review and District Tournament Preview

Featured Replies

Week 13:
Here’s a breakdown of each district tournament along with a final ranking for the regular season. Good luck and injury free ball to each team!

49th:
All games of the 49th this year are at Oneida Baptist Institute. The 49th District has already kicked off with a game Saturday between Red Bird and OBI for the 4th seed. OBI knocked off Red Bird by a score of 83-52. The next game will be Clay County as the 1 seed taking on OBI the 4 seed. This game will take place Tuesday night at 7. Clay won the first meeting between the two teams by a score of 80-57 and won the second by a score of 91-33. I look for Clay to establish dominance again. North Laurel and Jackson County are the two/three matchup. This game takes place Wednesday at 7. These two had to play back to back days in the regular season because of snow canceling games and North won the first matchup by 18 and the second by 9. I fully expect North to come out and win the third matchup as well. Barring no upsets, this would set up a 49th district championship between Clay County and North Laurel Friday night at 7. Both teams took care of the home court earlier in the year with North winning by 4 at home and Clay winning by 7 at home. The third matchup at a neutral site should be a doozy. Clay is winners of 12 straight and NL winners of 6 of their last 7.

50th:
This year the 50th district will take place at Whitley County High School. Both games take place Tuesday. Corbin and Williamsburg kick off the action at 6:00 in the 1-4 matchup. Corbin won both games this year with the first taking place way back in December where the Hounds won by 31. Corbin also won the next one but this was much closer with the game being close at the half before eventually Corbin pulled away with a 15 point win. Whitley County and South Laurel play after the first game with the time slot etched for 7:30. Both teams defended their home turf this season with South winning by 5 at their place and Whitley winning by 8 at their place. Home court may pay off big in this one. Mr. Do It All Jordan Mabe didn’t play in either game this year against Whitley. I think he’s the X Factor and I think he will be enough to give South Laurel the nod against a reeling Whitley County team that has lost three straight. The district championship is set for 7:00 Friday night. Corbin split with Whitley this year losing by 1 on the road and winning by 6 at home. Corbin swept South Laurel this year by winning by 11 on the road and 25 at home. Jordan Mabe didn’t play either game against Corbin.

51st:
This year the 51st district will take place at Lynn Camp High school. The first game will be the 1-4 game between Knox Central and Barbourville on Tuesday the 27th at 7:00. Teams in the 51st only play each other once. Knox beat Barbourville on December 1st by 30. Gavin Chadwell has had a monster season and I see no reason for that to change in this game. The 2-3 game between Pineville and Lynn Camp will take place Wednesday at 7:00. Pineville beat Lynn Camp earlier in the year by a final score of 83-56. I don’t see many things changing from this game earlier in the year as well. The 51st district finals will take place Friday at 7:00. Barring two huge upsets, it should be a rematch between Knox Central and Pineville. Knox won the first game 78-67 in a game where Gavin Chadwell had 18 and 10. Sawyer Thompson had 24 in the losing effort.

52nd:
This year the 52nd district will take place at Harlan County High School. Both first round games will take place on Tuesday the 27th. Harlan County and Middlesboro are the 1-4 matchup and this game is at 6PM. Harlan County won both games earlier this season by 29 and 44. I don’t foresee anything changing here. The 2-3 matchup will take place between Bell County and Harlan at 7:30. Bell won both of these games by 27 and 15. Barring a setback or an upset, Harlan County and Bell County will be playing each other in the championship game Friday night at 7:00. Harlan County won both games in the regular season by 19 and 25.
