Week 11:
Another wild week in the 13th region. Here we go!

 

1. Harlan County (22-4)
The Black Bears took care of business and ended their two game losing streak this week on the road at Harlan to finish undefeated in the district and wrap up the one seed. Trent Noah led the way in the 31 point blowout with 27. The Black Bears should be the favorite in the rest of their games to wrap up the season. This week they play at home both games with Pineville coming to town Tuesday and Boyd County coming in on Saturday. 

2. Bell County (20-4)
The Bobcats have all but wrapped up the two seed in the 52nd district this week by going on the road to beat Harlan by 27 and Middlesboro by 3. They play Harlan tonight at home to ensure they finish with the two seed, then go to Jackson County on Tuesday. They also play at South Laurel on Friday and host Whitley on Saturday. A busy week for Bell which should solidify if they’re worthy of their high ranking or if they should drop down a few spots. 

3. Clay County (17-8)
Clay pushed their win streak from 5 to 8 this week with a win over 14th region favorite Hazard by 12, a 58 point win over OBI, and a 22 point win over Bishop Brossart. Clay will hardly be tested again till the end of the year with an away game at Hazard. This week they play Red Bird at home on Tuesday and go to Wolfe County on Saturday. Clay and North will both be tied at 6-1 in the district for the one seed. I’m not sure on the tiebreaker but I don’t think any of the other teams in the district can stop them from meeting each other in the district championship. 

4. Corbin (15-7)
The Redhounds wrapped up the number one seed in the 50th district this week with a 25 point win over South Laurel and a 6 point win on the road at Whitley. They also added a 24 point win over Barbourville. The win over Whitley means Corbin will play Williamsburg in the first round of the 50th district once the playoffs start. Corbin plays Lynn Camp on the road Tuesday and North Laurel on the road Friday. 

5. North Laurel (12-13)
The Jaguars went 2-1 on the week with a 5 point loss at Lincoln County and an 18 and 9 point win over Jackson County in consecutive days. Brody Brock had 14 and Kole Jervis had 12 in the loss to Lincoln. North is tied for the district lead at 6-1 with Clay County but barring something insane happening they’ll meet again for the district title. North plays Middlesboro at home tonight, Madison Southern at home tomorrow, and Corbin at home on Friday. A big week for the Jaguars. 

6. Whitley County (18-6)
The Colonels started the week off with a win over Williamsburg by 40 after being upset earlier in the year by 1 at their place. This brought a pivotal game at home against Corbin for the districts one seed which will be huge if Jordan Mabe comes back for South Laurel. Unfortunately for the Colonels, they dropped this game by 6. Danny Ellis led the way with 22 in the losing effort. Whitley looks to shake that loss off with games this week against Lynn Camp at home tonight, Barbourville on the road Thursday, and Bell County on the road Saturday. 

7. Knox Central (16-8)
Knox went 1-1 on the week with a 23 point win over McCreary Central before dropping a 4 game against Wayne County. Braydon Mills and Gavin Chadwell both led the Panthers with 20 in the loss. Gavin Chadwell also added 18 boards. If not for Trent Noah being in the 13th, Gavin Chadwell would probably be the favorite to win the 13th region player of the year from a numbers standpoint. Knox plays Harlan at home Tuesday, and Jackson County on the road Friday. 

8. South Laurel (13-8)
South went 1-1 on the week with a 25 point loss at Corbin in a game they only scored 29 in, but then beat Williamsburg by 42. This locks south in as the 3 seed of the district and they’ll have a pivotal game with Whitley to make the region. The Cardinals are in action this week against Lincoln on the road tonight, Bell County at home Friday, and Harlan at home Saturday. 

9. Pineville (17-6)
The Mountain Lions went 3-0 on the week and pushed their win streak to five. They Beat Middlesboro by 1, Red Bird by 38, and Cumberland Gap by 8. They have their work cut out for them this week as they go to Harlan County on Tuesday, and to OBI on Thursday. Sawyer Thompson led Pineville in scoring with 30 in the game against Red Bird.
 

10. Williamsburg (12-13)
Williamsburg had a tough week within the district as they lost to Whitley by 40 and South Laurel by 42. They have no time to fret on those losses as they play Barbourville at home tonight, Lynn Camp at home Thursday, and Jackson City on the road Saturday.
