8th Region Week 6 Review and Rankings

Featured Replies

Here is your 8th Region rankings and review week 6. Still familiarizing myself with these teams. One thing I’m learning though is these guys win a lot of games.

1. North Oldham (12-2).
The Mustangs went 1-0 on the week with a resounding 31 point win over Holy Cross. Five players scored in double digits and the mustangs shot 63.6% from the field. North Oldham is back in action Monday against Shawnee, Tuesday against Evangel Christian in a big time matchup, and Friday against North Hardin with all these games being at home.

2. Woodford County (11-2)
The Yellow Jackets were also perfect on the week with a 10 point win over Spencer County and a 16 point win over Tates Creek. The win over Spencer moves Woodford to 2-0 within the district. WoFo takes on Washington County at home Wednesday, before traveling to South Laurel to take on 13th region favorite Harlan County on Saturday in a big time matchup.

3. Oldham County (11-4).
The Colonels are now winners of 7 straight after going 2-0 last week. The Colonels took down Ballard by 11 and Sayre by 28. I don’t know a ton about Williamstown, but I’d say the game Tuesday will tell if they are for real or not. Oldham also plays South Oldham Friday, and then Walton-Verona Saturday. This will tell me a lot about how these middle of the pack teams rank up.

4. Walton Verona (13-4)
The Bearcats went 3-0 on the week with all three wins being in the 8th Region all A. The icing on the cake was the 15 point win over Gallatin County. WV will play Simon Kenton this Friday, then play Oldham County on Saturday in two big time region games back to back.

5. Spencer County (7-8)
Spencer went 1-1 on the week with a 50 point win over Henry County and a 10 point loss to Woodford. 3 of the Bears losses this year have been by 2 points. It seems like they’re in close games but can’t finish them out. I’ll know if I nailed the 5 and 6 rankings when Shelby comes to town on Friday. This is the only game for Spencer this week.

6. Shelby County (9-6).
The Rockets went 2-1 on the week with two region wins against Anderson by 15 and Carroll by 25. They also faced a 8 point setback to South Oldham. Shelby plays Valley at home on Tuesday before going to Spencer County on Friday. This is a big district game that will get one of the two the leg up on the other.

7. Gallatin County (10-5)
Gallatin went on a nice run in the 8th region all A with wins over Cornerstone Christian and previous 9-1 Williamstown before falling to Walton-Verona by 15 in the finals. Matthew Griffin led the way in the loss with 29. The Wildcats will take on Carroll Co on the road Tuesday before playing Henry County at home on Friday.

8. Williamstown (9-2)
The Demons had just their second loss on the year as their time in the 8th Region all A came to a close quick. There’s no time to hang their heads as they look to rebound in a big week with games at Oldham County on Tuesday, Heritage Academy Thursday, and at Henry County on Saturday.

9. Simon Kenton (5-9)
The Pioneers are still struggling to figure it out after facing a 34 point setback at Bryan Station this past week. Simon Kenton will have played nine straight away games as they wrap up this week with games at Lloyd Memorial on Tuesday, and at Walton-Verona Friday.

10. South Oldham (8-6)
I’m going to have the Dragons round out the top 10. Winners of 6 straight, and had two wins against Shelby Co by 8 and Collins by 38 this week. The Dragons are playing good basketball. They look to continue their winning ways against Oldham County on Friday this week.

Best of the Rest:

11. Anderson County (10-5)

12. Collins (6-8)

13. Owen County (7-6)

14. Grant County (8-6)

15. Henry County (9-7)

16. Carroll County (3-9)

17. Trimble County (3-12)

18. Eminence (3-10)
