Changes coming mid January?

Everyone has heard of the Polar Vortex. It appears it is weakening, and we will finally enter the El Niño winter pattern about mid-January. This will allow polar air to move into Kentucky.  First, let's look at the 500 mb map. It shows a deep trough covering the western part of the United States at the beginning of the period.  Temperatures in our part of the country could rise to the mid-60s before the trough moves into Kentucky. Showers and possible thunderstorms could occur at the leading edge of the polar airmass. The jet stream will pick up a low-pressure system and steer it toward Kentucky. Right now, the system is forecast to move through western Kentucky. The track and how fast the polar air moves in will be key.  If the track is further toward the east the possible heavy snow will pass through Kentucky. Lastly, there is the possible accumulation map. Don't take the snow accumulations as certain. A forecast this far out is unreliable, but I wanted to post to give everyone a heads-up.
