Here is your 13th Region Top 10 Week 3. Harlan County continues to show why they’re not just one of the top teams in the region, but in the whole state. They look to take their undefeated season into the Kings of the Bluegrass. Corbin started their season this week with monster wins but haven’t been tested too much. Most of the 13th will be playing multiple games this week as most teams are taking place in tournaments, so the potential is there to see multiple movers in the rankings going into next week. 

1. Harlan County (7-0).
After a big win over South Laurel, Harlan County showed why they’re at the top of the region right now. Trent Noah led the way that game with 22. Then to cap off the week Harlan County pulled down an OT win over Desales in a game where Trent Noah went for 32 and Maddox Huff for 26. When those two are on, they’re probably the regions best two man game. The Black Bears face off against Bowling Green Wednesday night in the King of the Bluegrass and judging by how that game goes will tell who else they have this week. 

2. Corbin  (2-0)
Corbin finally began their season with a monster 119-31 win over Cordia then followed it up with a district win over Cordia. 13 people scored against Cordia while pretty much everyone got to play. Corbin has a big week this week in the Legacy Nissan Challenge at South Laurel. They will play Harlan Wednesday and then have games from the tournament Thursday and Friday. 

3. South Laurel (3-2).
South took a couple bruises this week with a 7 point loss to Harlan County and a 2 point loss in overtime to Bardstown. Rawlings, Steele, and Mabe led the way in the losing effort against HC with 12 a piece. South looks to get back on track this week with games Wednesday against Owen County in their home tournament then games Thursday and Friday. 

4. Clay County (5-2).
Clay went 2-0 on the week with district wins over OBI and Jackson County. Neither game was relatively close and Roark and Bundy both led the way in both wins. Clay is putting together a nice season but we’ve yet to see them get a win over a premier program. Clay will travel to McCreary for the McCreary invitational and take on Danville Wednesday. They will also likely play Thursday and Friday in the tournament as well. 

5. Bell County (7-0)
Bell kept their undefeated season alive with with three wins over Lynn Camp, Buckhorn, and Leslie County. Bell is killing all the teams they’re playing but their SOS is not very good so it’s hard to get a gauge on them. They play this week in the Redmond Auto Group Holiday Classic with the first game being against Cumberland Gap TN. 

6. Whitley County (6-1)
Whitley also went 3-0 on the week with wins over Middlesboro, Pineville, and Rye Cove. The wins over Pineville and Middlesboro show they’re a notch above the back half of the 13th region. Evan Ellis has a monster game against Pineville with 27 and 8. He also led the way against Middlesboro with 31 and 9. Whitley plays tonight against Casey County, tomorrow against Nicholas County, and Friday against Belfry. 

7. Pineville (4-2)
Pineville had a chance to jump a few spots but faced a set back against Whitley county 80-86. Pineville has star power in Sawyer Thompson, but they need to get a win or two over the upper half of the teams in the region. Pineville will travel to the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic this week and try their luck in Gatlinburg. 

8. Knox Central (5-2).
Knox went 2-0 on the week and continues to be the most improved team in the region. Big man Gavin Chadwell had a monster game against Lee County finishing with 19 and 16 while Grayson Burton led all scorers with 29. Against Model Chadwell had 29 and 21. He’s one of if not the best big man in the region. Knox will also be joining Clay County as they travel to the McCreary Invitational this week as they play Casey County in their first game. 

9. North Laurel (1-5).
North got their season started off in the W column with a win over OBI 87-41. North may not be at the top of the region like they have been, but my belief is they will finish around that 4-6 range by the end of the year. Kudos to Coach Valentine for scheduling the way he has knowing that they would be losing as much volume as they did. North will take place in the Central Bank Jim Rose Classic this week and will kick the week off with Baylor TN tomorrow evening. 

10. Harlan (1-3).
Harlan joins the top 10 this week after a 13 point win over Middlesboro. With Kyler McLendon the Green Dragons will still be able to compete and win games, but they did lose a lot of their production from last year. The Green Dragons look to keep their winning ways going as they play Corbin on Wednesday in the Legacy Nissan Challenge.

What is your thoughts now after every one has played a few more games? Honestly I see 2 teams right now(granted maybe not at the end of the year) that are well above. The SOS while helping with win lose is not helping several of the teams

I think Harlan County is a clear cut 1. South Laurel beating CAL in their tournament I think they’re for sure 2 and if they add Hayden Harris from Clay it’ll make them even tougher. They’re probably the two I’d say are well above. Corbin is always a tough out but Davis has Coach P’s number so they’ll likely be stuck having to go the long route in the region. As of right now, couldn’t see anyone but those three stringing together three straight to win the region. But I do think 1 and 2 are much higher than 3.

Absolutely agree. They are the only 2 teams playing any kind of schedule.
