Notes

-So this week had some very unexpected results, and I'd pretty much classify it as chaos already.  Clinton County entered the week undefeated with three games against region teams - they lost every one of them.  The loss to Todd County Central was probably the most shocking of that group, as Clinton County had already knocked off a Monroe County squad that had beaten Todd County Central - perhaps the back to back nights got to the Bulldogs? The first loss of the week that they took to Cumberland County put the Panthers in the driver's seat as they are now 3-0 in district play and grabbed a critical and extremely rare win over Clinton County (on the road no less).  How rare? Cumberland County hadn't beaten Clinton County since the 2009 district tournament.  That was 38 losses in a row.  Earlier that same season was the last time they won on the road against Clinton County, almost 15 years to the day.  So how do they follow that up? By losing to Logan County, which may ultimately go down as the strangest result of the entire season.  Maybe the Panthers had a letdown and overlooked the Cougars, but that loss was out of completely nowhere.  The 16th District was by far the most interesting to follow a season ago, and it looks like we're in for a treat again.

-A couple of teams have bounced back from slow starts to go streaking.  Greenwood stubbed their toe to open the year, falling in their first two games while shorthanded, but have now reeled off five wins in a row heading into the holiday tournament season.  Nick Simpson is averaging 18.8 PPG and is shooting close to 41% from three so far in the season.  Meanwhile, Barren County has ran off four in a row, winning big in two district games by demolishing both Warren East (72-50) and Allen County-Scottsville (66-38).  This is even more emphatic than a year ago when they won by more modest margins in starting 2-0 in district play, which carried them to the #1 seed in their district tournament when all was said and done.

-Warren East trailed Franklin-Simpson by 1 in the 2A sectional finals and less than 15 seconds on the clock, and possession.  With just over 3 seconds left, Kyler Pedigo hit the most clutch shot that can be hit, nailing a corner three while being fouled.  That put the Raiders up three, and allowed them to commit a foul to send Franklin to the line, preventing a three point attempt.  The Wildcats hit the first and tried to miss the second, but it went in.  The Raiders inbounded and were able to stay away from a foul attempt, to win the game 62-61.  This avenged the loss the Raiders took a year ago in the same spot, and will send them to 2A championships in Owensboro in January. That capped a tough week for the Wildcats, who fell to Warren Central by a 67-65 score two days prior, extending their losing streak against Warren Central to 7.

Enjoy the holidays and holiday tournaments - we'll see you in January!

When are you going to update again?
