Notes

-One unbeaten remains in the region as five of the six that remained after week 1 took their first loss (or two).  Clinton County is the lone team left, after a lucrative week saw them pick up two 16th District victories over Monroe County and Metcalfe County.  Cohen Davis continues his stellar play, putting up 22 in the win over Monroe County and 10 over Metcalfe County.  Nick Poore combined for 25 in the two games as well.  The Bulldogs are coming off a rare down season, one that saw them miss the region tournament.  A significant factor in that was a poor start in district play last year.  This year they could potentially be 4-0 in the district by the end of this week, as they host Cumberland County and visit Russell County.  A great chance for Clinton County to really put themselves in the driver's seat for the top seed.

-Bowling Green suffered their first setbacks of the season, one without their football players and one with.  Elizabethtown is one of the few teams in the state with a post to match Ritter, and the result was a mere 37 point effort by the Purples, just the second time they've been held so low in just shy of the last 16 years.  The other time? Also against Elizabethtown, three seasons ago. Their second loss came in the Kentucky Straight Apparel Classic by three to Washington County.  The good news is apparent - the football players will get re acclimated, and the Purples will get rolling.  That was on full display against Glasgow on the road Friday night.  The Purples started a little slow, trailing 20-13 after one.  They won the second quarter 30-7 and the rout was on from there.  They finish their tune ups for the King of the Bluegrass tournament this week.

-Barren County had plenty of reason to celebrate, opening district play with a 72-50 win over Warren East, a surprising margin.  The Raiders had defeated Glasgow earlier in the week in a 2A sectional game - therefore not counted in district standings - but the margin here and the Glasgow/Warren East result would seem to indicate that Barren County is the favorite in the district, which was not believed to be the case beforehand.  The Trojans had three in double figures during the victory, led by Tate Spillman's 18, followed by William Compton (16) and Mason Bunch (12).

-Cumberland County had perhaps the most surprising week, going 3-0 on the week, but most critically, 2-0 in district play with a 68-48 win over Metcalfe County and a 57-55 victory over Mason County.  The Panthers lost all three matchups with Metcalfe County last season, including the district tournament loss that ended their year, and 7 of their last 8.  This was a significant hurdle for them to clear, and they followed it with the win over Monroe.  That earned them a big bump in the rankings, and a big matchup with #3 Clinton County this Tuesday.

-The marquee matchups of the week are the aformentioned Clinton County/Russell County matchup, Warren East hosting Glasgow in a rapid rematch on Friday, and under the radar the Warren Central visit to Franklin-Simpson is worth keeping an eye on, as the Dragons will look to avoid the worst start in the history of their program.  They've matched it at 0-4 - they've never been 0-5.
