A rejuvenated Oldham County team goes on the road to Fern Creek tomorrow night to face a Tiger team fresh off a win over Fairdale on Sunday.

Oldham County proved it could win when one of the three pieces to the puzzle - the offense - was off-kilter, beating Shelby County at home on Saturday, 17-16.    The Colonels got a field goal and a kickoff return TD from the special teams, and a pick-six from the defense to score all of their points - and the defense, led by Tyler Roark and Nate Votaw (each with 11 total tackles) made that stand up for the win.

Oldham was outgained, 336-106, by Shelby, with just 46 passing yards and 60 rushing yards.   Still, QB Derek Dees, making his second career varsity start, was a very efficient 7 of 10 passing for 46 yards (no TDs or interceptions).    Through two games, Dees (sophomore) is 18 of 25 passing for 127 yards, 0 INT 0 TD.

David Turner scored on the pick six; Jaime Berrera had two PATs and the FG, and Kayden Osbourn scored on the kickoff return for OC.

Fern Creek got their icebreaker win, 28-12, over Fairdale on the road.   Like Oldham, the Tigers were heavily out-gained, yardage-wise, but made what they had count.   The Creek continues to struggle through the air - QB Caleb Passmore (gets my vote for favorite QB name of 2023) was just 3 of 12 passing for 42 yards and a pick, but he also threw a six yard TD pass to Patrick Carr.

On the ground, Mykel Malone had a sterling day, with 101 yards and 1 TD.   Since the beginning of the 2022 season, FC is 4-0 when Malone rushes for over 100 yards.

Also like Oldham County, the FC defense shone.    The Tigers recovered two Fairdale fumbles and intercepted three Bulldog passes as the defense made a meager offensive output be "good enough."   (Fern Creek was outgained, 320 yards to 157.)   Besides his receiving TD, Patrick Carr returned one of the fumbles for a defensive score.    He also kicked four PATs.   James White led the defense with 11 total tackles.

The broadcast starts at 7 pm ET on www.pegasussportsky.com.   The high-def video coverage is FREE, with Mike Montgomery providing the play-by-play.   The video will also be available on the website anytime for viewing after the game.

The game will be Creek's second against an Oldham school; the Tigers lost in Week 1 to North Oldham, 21-7.

Both teams need to establish control of the LOS early....neither team wants to play from behind, but that is perhaps especially true of FC, which has thrown the ball very poorly in its first two games.

Oldham has yet to "unleash" sophomore QB Derek Dees, but he has been remarkably consistent in a conservative passing attack so far.

Pegasus goes on air at 7 pm with Mike Montgomery and Jamie Brown (former North Oldham head coach).
