Featured Replies

I just watched this young man this past Friday and after talking to his coach and watching him play, I will say he has college ball in his future

Wyatt Martin

West Carter High School

Class 2026

Positions played

Kicker and Punter

How long have you played football, along with the reasons you continue to play?

I have played the sport for going on 3 years now. I continue to play because I love kicking, I love football, I love the atmosphere.

What are your personal goals for the 2023 season?

Go perfect on extra points. Break the school record for most extra points in a game. Break the school record for the furthest field goal. Kick touchbacks

How long have you been a kicker, and what got you started?

I have been a kicker since I was 9 years old. My dad kicked in high school and college and we were in the yard one evening passing football and he taught me how to punt. After that, he got me a kickoff tee and field goal tee and holder and I worked and worked in the yard all summer until middle school then I took a break from practicing kicking. Soccer got in the way. 2 years later I decided to move to West Carter and kick my 8th grade year. And now I’m here.

What is the toughest weather condition to kick in?

Definitely the wind and snow. I was at a camp in Huntington in March and it was snowing and windy and it was awful.

How much time in practice do you get to work on your game?

2 hours but I only kick for 1 hour to save my leg and not injure it. It’s like throwing a baseball you can’t do it over and over again for 2 hours.

Have you ever kicked or missed a potential game-winning field goal?

No, I have never been in the spot there. The closest thing is when in practice coach barker said if I miss the 42-yard field goal we have to run sprints

What has been your longest field goal in a game and then in practice?

50 in practice and 35 in-game

What is one thing you would love to do in a game but will probably never get a chance to?

That’s a good question but to be honest with you I don’t know.

What do you feel you need to improve on to be the Kicker you want to be?

Consistency man. It’s everything in the kicking game.

What part of the kicking game do you enjoy the most?

I’ve gotta say everything about it but definitely seeing the ball going through the uprights

What are you looking forward to the most this season?

Breaking records and definitely being with the team

Who is your favorite athlete?

Pat McAfee

Where is the best place in town to grab a bite?

Tyler’s pizza for sure

What is your favorite type of music?

I’m a rap guy but I love country to

What was the last book you read?

I don’t really enjoy books. Mostly articles especially since my grandfather writes for a West Virginia magazine
