6th Region Week 12 Review

 

One big change in the regional rankings as Western occupies the No. 2 spot at the end of the regular season after taking down previous No. 2 Pleasure Ridge Park 57-51 last week for its sixth straight win. PRP slides down one spot to No. 3. Evangel Christian remains No. 1 while riding a five-game winning streak and the hot hand of Cyr Malonga. The rest is pretty much the same as district tournaments loom this week. The KABC named Pleasure Ridge Park's Keith Robinson region player of the year and Evangel Christian's Larry Miller coach of the year.

 

Regional Rankings:

 

1. Evangel Christian (26-4, 6-0 region, 4-0 23rd District): The Eagles went 3-0 the final week of the regular season, defeating Bowling Green 66-52 with 19 points from Cyr Malonga, beating Seneca 81-22 with 19 points from Malonga, and downing Wayne County 62-49 with 23 from Malonga. They have beaten Pleasure Ridge Park. Outside the region, they've beaten Lincoln County, St. Xavier and Elizabethtown and won the All "A" Classic state tournament. They earned the No. 1 seed at the 23rd District tournament and play the first-round winner of North Bullitt and host Bullitt Central in the semifinals.

 

2. Western (21-7, 10-2, 3-1 22nd): The Warriors went 2-0 the final week. They had wins against Moore with 16 points from Josiah Lawson and Pleasure Ridge Park with 16 points from Trent Hinkle. They have just four losses to Kentucky schools. They square off Tuesday against DeSales in the 22nd District tournament semifinals at Doss.

 

3. Pleasure Ridge Park (21-5, 11-2, 4-0 21st): The Panthers went 1-1 for the week, beating Fern Creek with 19 points from Gregory Cole and losing to Western. Have beaten Butler. The No. 1 seed, they await the first-round winner of Beth Haven vs. Valley in the 21st District tournament semifinals.

 

4. Butler (20-8, 9-2, 3-1 22nd): The Bears beat Jeffersontown in their lone game of the week. Dayton Williams had 12 points and six rebounds. They also have beaten DeSales, Fairdale and Iroquois with wins over Male, Ballard and Fleming County out of the region. Play Iroquois in a district tournament semifinal.

 

5. DeSales (18-10, 5-1, 3-1 22nd): The Colts beat Bullitt East in their only game of the final week as Crew Gibson had 16 points and 15 rebounds. They have also beaten Western and Iroquois. Have beaten Male, Simon Kenton, Eastern and Elizabethtown outside the region. 

 

6. Fairdale (21-8, 12-5, 3-2 21st): The Bulldogs finished the week 3-0 with wins versus Doss, Meade County and Southern. Jacob Tucker scored 31 points against Meade County. They have won 17 of their last 20 games. They've also beaten Jeffersontown, Beth Haven twice, Iroquois and Fern Creek. Play Lou. Holy Cross in the district semifinals.

 

7. Iroquois (9-11, 6-7, 1-3 22nd): The Raiders went 2-2 with victories against Shawnee by forfeit and Doss to begin the postseason. They beat Holy Cross by 18 earlier. Beat Doss 59-57 Sunday in a 22nd District first-round tournament game.

 

8. Holy Cross (21-8, 8-5, 3-2 21st): The Cougars enjoyed a second straight 3-0 week, defeating St. Xavier, Atherton, and Bethlehem with 22 points from Jacob Hand. Have also beaten Fairdale, and Beth Haven in a season split.

 

9. Fern Creek (11-15, 6-6, 2-0 24th): Went 1-1, losing to Pleasure Ridge Park and beating Doss with 22 points from Jaden Johnson. Has beaten Jeffersontown. Plays Whitefield Academy in a 24th District tournament semifinal at Jeffersontown.

 

10. Jeffersontown (12-12, 7-4, 2-1 24th): The defending regional champions went 1-1 with a win over Iroquois. The Chargers have beaten Western, Bullitt East twice and Moore. Host Bullitt East in the district tournament semifinals.

 

11. Beth Haven (20-10, 3-6, 2-4 21st): The Bearcats went 1-1. Their three regional wins came against Lou. Holy Cross, North Bullitt and Valley, which they play in a first-round district tournament game at Valley.

 

12. Bullitt East (12-17, 6-6, 0-2 24th): The Chargers went 0-2. They have beaten Moore, Doss, North Bullitt and Bullitt Central with earlier regional wins against Iroquois and Lou. Holy Cross.

 

13. Moore (12-17, 6-9, 3-1 23rd): The Mustangs went 1-1 for the week with a win over Valley. They have also beaten Doss, Southern, North Bullitt and Bullitt Central. Beat Beth Haven in January. Earned the No. 2 district seed and play Southern in the tournament semis.

 

14. Doss (5-22, 3-10, 0-4 22nd): The Dragons lost both games last week to Fairdale and Fern Creek then dropped the district tournament opener at home to Iroquois on Sunday. They beat Fern Creek and Moore earlier but the season is suddenly over for last year's regional tournament runner-up.

 

15. Southern (10-20, 4-11, 2-2 23rd): The Trojans went 2-1. They have beaten North Bullitt and Bullitt Central.

 

16. North Bullitt (15-15, 1-9, 1-4 23rd): The Eagles went 2-1. They have split two games vs. Bullitt Central.

 

17. Bullitt Central (5-24, 2-8, 1-4 23rd): The Cougars went 0-2 on the week.

 

18. Valley (0-23, 0-11, 0-4 21st): The Vikings finished the week 0-3.

 

19. Whitefield Academy (8-18, 0-1, 0-0 24th): Went 1-1 for the week.

Hate that Western, Butler and DeSales in same District.

All three are Regional contenders and one will be left out.
