53rd District:

Site: Alice Lloyd College

February 23-24

Feb. 23rd. Knott County Central vs. Cordia

Feb. 24th. KCC/Cordia vs. Letcher County Central Championship.

Letcher County Central has ran through this district, winning every game by 20+ points. One of these wins was a 30 point shalacking over Knott County Central. With the 53rd being a 3 team district, the Cougars have already punched their ticket to the 14th region tournament.

Knott County Central has struggled this whole season but they have defeated their first round opponent, Cordia, fairly easy both times. This should be no different.

Cordia a shell of their old selves have just 1 win this year and it would take a big big miracle for them to beat KCC and get back to the regional tournament.

February 21-24. 7 PM tip times all 3 games.

Feb. 21st: Leslie County vs. Hazard

Feb. 22nd. Buckhorn vs. Perry County Central.

Hazard has ran wild through the 14th region this season and they look to be on a mission and their mission; 14th Region Champs. Bulldogs roll into the district tournament riding a 7 game win streak.

Perry County Central is riding a 4 game win streak and 3 of those have been by double digits. Commodores have came a long ways from where they were at the first part of the season.

Leslie County have dropped 3 of their final 5 games. Leslie County has a tough task ahead against Hazard.

Buckhorn is 3-9 since January 19th.

Feb. 20th 8 PM Wolfe County vs. Jackson City.

Feb. 23rd. Wolfe County/Jackson City vs. Breathitt County.

Breathitt County is 6-2 in their final 8 games. Two of those wins came against both district opponents.

Wolfe County has dropped 4 straight and 7 of their final 8. In fact, their lone win during the stretch, came against none other than their first round opponent, Jackson City and that was only a 7 point win for the Wolves.

Jackson City has won 3 of their final 5 games (1 is a forfeit). One of those losses is a 7 point loss to the team they will meet on Monday night, Wolfe County.

56th District:

Site: Owsley County

Feb. 21-24

Feb. 21 6 PM (1) Powell County at (4) Owsley County.

Feb. 21 8 PM (2) Estill County vs. (3) Lee County.

Feb. 24th 7 PM Championship.

For the first time in a long time, this district was decided by a tie breaker. Powell County ended up with the 1 seed, Estill 2, Lee 3.

Powell County has lost 3 straight but they do have 2 wins against Owsley County this season.

Estill County has won 6 of their final 8 games. They split the regular season with Lee, falling 60-58 at Lee County but beating the Bobcats 70-58 in Irvine. Benton vs. Watterson is gonna be a dandy.

Lee County has won 4 straight. One of the two losses before the 4 game won streak, was to Estill County 70-58 in Irvine.

Owsley County has struggled all season winning just 6 games.
