13th Region Week 8 Review:

1. Harlan (18-2): The Green Dragons went 1-0 on a slow week. Their one game they did play they won 100-51 over Middlesboro. As this team has shown, they can score points in a hurry. Harlan had a season best 22 3’s in the win. Kaleb McLendon led the way with 29 and 7 3’s. Harlan can set the nets on fire. They will have a rematch with Pikeville on Monday at home who they have split with this season before taking on Martin County in the first round of the All A on Thursday.

2. Harlan County (16-3): The Black Bears also went undefeated on the week with  dominating wins over Bell County and Letcher County Central. Harlan County is 3-0 in district play and continues to roll behind Trent Noah, Maddox Huff, and Daniel Carmical. This week looks like games Thursday at home against Breathitt and a big time showdown with Madison Central on Saturday.

 3. North Laurel (11-9): The Jaguars went 2-1 on the week with dominating wins over Jackson County and Clay County before dropping a close one at Cov Cath. Reed Sheppard was held to a season low of 4 points, but North got a huge game from Ryan Davidson who finished with 34. North hasn’t lost yet within the region or district, but they do have a lot of losses against quality competition. North will take on Red Bird at home, Madison Southern on the road, and inner city rival South Laurel on the road this week.

4. South Laurel (14-5): The Cardinals bounced back in a major way this week beating Barbourville then beating Corbin at home to avenge their loss prior. After a 9 point loss earlier in the year, they responded with an 18 point victory. Barring any upsets within the district, that win should be enough to give South Laurel the 1 seed in the district. South takes on Whitley County on the road before hosting North Laurel on Friday.

 5. Corbin (11-5): Corbin had a nice week this week all things considered going 3-1 on the week. The Hounds had a big district win over Whitley, a dominating win against DCA after dropping a game to them earlier in the week, a dominant win over Garrard, but did drop a huge district game to South Laurel. Before the game started Corbin received three technical fouls for players dunking with refs on the floor. These all fell back on the Head Coach, and Corbin’s head coach was ejected before the game had started. Corbin takes on Knox Central on the road, Williamsburg at home, and Whitley County on the road this week.

 6. Whitley County (13-6): The Colonels dropped a game earlier in the week to Corbin, but finished out the week with wins over Pineville and Bell County. Ashton Reynolds had a monster game against Bell County going for 40 and 7 shooting 65% from the field. Whitley looks to take that next step and get that season defining win this week when they host both South Laurel and Corbin. If they’re going to take that next jump then this is the week to do it.

7. Barbourville (10-7): The Tigers went 1-1 on the week with a loss to South Laurel before taking a decisive win against district foe Lynn Camp. Kevin Turner led the way against Lynn Camp going 11-16 from the field and putting up 25 and 8. Barbourville will host Pineville before taking on Danville this week.

8. Jackson County (14-7): The Generals had wins over OBI and Model this week before getting killed by district foe North Laurel. Jackson was very balanced against Model with Carter Cunagin leading the way with 17, and Jude Lakes and Keagan Ward scoring 16 and 14 respectively. Jackson has a slow week but a big week as they take on Clay County on the road Tuesday.

9. Clay County (8-9): The Tigers took an early week loss to Perry County Central before bouncing back to dominate OBI then get dominated by North Laurel. Clay has the vibes of a team that isn’t going to have enough to pull off a big upset, but can hang and play and beat teams around their level. Clay will host Middlesboro and Jackson County this week. The Jackson game will be huge as one of those teams will likely be making it out of the 49th district.

10. Pineville (11-6): The Mountain Lions dominated Middlesboro by 40 before losing to both Whitley and Paris. Sawyer Thompson dropped 30 on 86% shooting in the win. Pineville will be busy this week as they go to Barbourville, and they host Lynn Camp at home.

Best of the rest:

11. Williamsburg (9-8)

12. Bell County (6-13)

13. Middlesboro (4-14)

14. OBI (7-11)

15. Knox Central  (2-17)

16. Lynn Camp (4-13)

17. Red Bird (1-13)
