Week Two featured Boyd County's continued hot streak to begin the season as the Lions moved to 4-0 for the lone unblemished record in the region at this juncture. They enjoyed their second straight 2-0 week with outstanding performances from top scorers Cole Hicks and Jacob Spurlock. Russell also moved to four wins on the ledger with a 3-1 weekly record. But its Fleming County that leads the pack with five wins already thanks to its own 3-1 showing. Russell makes the first leapfrog move in the rankings' top five, exchanging spots with Bath County after taking down the Wildcats at the Eastern Kentucky Conference Tournament. For now, Morgan County is holding off hot-starting Fleming County to round out the top five. At the other end of the spectrum, West Carter and Elliott County are all still seeking first wins. Here is a look at the region with updated rankings.

1. Ashland Blazer (2-2): The Tomcats had their second straight break-even week, going 1-1. They beat Fairview at home 89-63 but lost to powerful George Rogers Clark 70-57 at the Boyd County Roundball Classic. Zander Carter scored a team-high 24 points vs. Fairview.

2. Boyd County (4-0): The Lions remained unbeaten with a pair of victories at its own Boyd County Roundball Classic. They downed Lewis County 76-40 and defeated Pikeville, 79-69. Cole Hicks scored 26 points against Lewis County. He leads the team with 20.2 ppg. Jacob Spurlock, averaging an even 20, dumped 29 on Pikeville.

3. Russell (4-2): The Red Devils went 3-1 for the week with three straight wins vs. West Carter and Bath County at the Eastern Kentucky Conference Tournament and a road game against Rose Hill Christian, followed by a loss to Augusta at Mason County's Mike Murphy Classic. Damon Charles posted team-highs of 22 points and six rebounds against West Carter.

4. Bath County (3-1): The Wildcats split two games, beating Lewis County to run its season-opening win streak to three and losing to Russell, both games at the Eastern Kentucky Conference Tournament. Zack Otis scored a team-high 25 points against Lewis County.

5. Morgan County (3-1): The Cougars went 2-0 for the week with an 83-57 home win over Magoffin County and a 74-60 win at Powell County. Cameron Adams drilled five 3-pointers and erupted for a team season-high 33 points against Magoffin County.

6. Fleming County (5-1): The Panthers stretched their winning streak to five games with a 78-39 win over Menifee County but were routed by Mason County 92-63 at the Mike Murphy Classic. They began the week with a 76-50 win over Greenup County thanks to solid scoring from Seth Hickerson (22 points) and Lucas Jolly (20). Jolly followed with 19 against Pendleton County and leads the team with 20 ppg.

7. Rowan County (2-3): The Vikings rebounded from three straight losses with two straight wins, taking contests against East Carter by a score of 51-44 at the Eastern Kentucky Conference Tournament and Somerset, 78-65, at the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown (Ind.). Jayson Ingles scored 18 against East Carter.

8. Raceland (3-2): The Racers went 2-2 during a busy week, following two losses with a pair of wins against Rose Hill Christian and Johnson Central at the Boyd County Roundball Classic.

9. East Carter (1-2): The Raiders lost their only game of the week to Rowan County at the Eastern Kentucky Conference Tournament. Blake Hall scored a team-best 19 points. He's second on the team with 12.3 ppg, trailing only Evan Goodman (16.3).

10. Fairview (2-2): The Eagles lost their only game of the week at Ashland Blazer by a score of 89-63. Top producers were Tanner Johnson with team-highs of 21 points and six rebounds and Steven Day with 19 points.

11. Lewis County (1-2): The Lions dropped two in tournament play, losing 56-51 to Bath County despite 17 points from Drew Noble at the Eastern Kentucky Conference Tournament and 76-40 to host Boyd County at the Boyd County Roundball Classic.

12. Menifee County (2-3): The Wildcats went 1-2 for the week. The highlight: a 62-55 win over Elliott County with 21 points from Brevon Ricker and 19 from Aiden Manley. Ricker leads the team with 24.2 ppg. Manley is averaging 13.8.

13. Greenup County (2-3): The Musketeers earned their first win of the season with a 55-44 home victory against Elliott County after dropping its first three games. They followed with a win against Minford (Ohio) for a 2-1 week.

14. West Carter (0-4): The Comets are still looking for their first win after losing 55-43 to Russell and 80-65 to Lawrence County, despite 22 points from Brett Dailey.

15. Elliott County (0-3): The Lions lost a pair of road games, dropping contests against Menifee County and Greenup County. 

16. Rose Hill Christian (1-3): The Royals were blown out twice, losing 71-32 at Raceland and 70-24 vs. Russell.

Boyd's looking good following the ten point win over BGP top 20 ranked Pikeville. They'll have their shot to overtake Ashland in the regional rankings when they meet the Tomcats Tuesday night in Summit. That's the sporting event of the week in NEKY.
