Region 6 Tournament Preview!

Featured Replies

19 teams started the season - only 8 remain!!  Let's take a look at the Region 6 tourney!!

Quarter Final #1 - Faridale @ Doss

Fairdale (14-17) lost in the D21 final to PRP.  The Dawgs are led by So.'s Dalton Hicks(18.8ppg) and Jacob Tucker (18.2ppg). Scoring is usually not an issue for Fairdale, but can they stop Doss (22-7), who should be feeling very confident after winning the very strong 22nd district.  Doss is lead by the strong duo of sr.'s Inslee Carroll (18.0ppg) and Tony Moss (16.2ppg).

Quarter Final #2 - Bullitt East @ Evangel

Bullitt East (17-13) lost to J-town in the D24 final.  BE is lead by Sr. Tucker Blandford, who averages 16ppg.  Evangel (21-10) has ended the season on a nice win streak.  Unfortunately, leading scorer Christian Spalding suffered a knee injury during the district tourney and is out for the season. G. Kyran Tilley (11ppg) and jr. C Cyr Malonga will have to step up in his absence.

Quarter Final #3 - Butler @ PRP

Butler (18-13) beat Western to advance to the 22D final, but lost to Doss.  They then draw their rival in PRP, who won the regular season match-up in 2OT! Butler is led by the trio of Mershon Dickerson (16.7ppg), Chavez Woods (12.9ppg) and Julion Beard (11.6ppg).  PRP (22-6) easily went through D21 and will be excited to have Butler at home this time.    PRP has an impressive 3-man attack with 6th Region POY,  jr. PG Zee McCown (19.3ppg), jr. F Keith Robinson (17.2ppg), and sr. C Vic Lado (15ppg).

Quarter Final #4 - Bullitt Central @ J-town

Bullitt Central (19-11) lost to Evangel in the D23 final.  They are led by G Hunter Coleman (22.0ppg).  Jeffersontown (21-8) won district 24 and is led by the Vasser brothers (sr. Will 13.7ppg and so. Dre 12.8ppg), but F Lavonte Harris, G Terrall Cleaves and W Xavier Price all chip-in, averaging around 10ppg.

I don't see where Doss isn't the favorite to come out to the finals on their half of the bracket.  They are a mature team (some 5 year players), athletic, and have some strong shooters, namely Carroll.  If Evangel was full-strength, it might be a different story, but with their injuries, I give Bullitt East a punchers chance at the upset in round 1.

The PRP/Butler game will be a battle.  Both teams give each other match-up problems.  Butler has a hard time with Lado under the basket, but Butler's bigger guards give PRP some issues in the half court.  It will be a 1-2 possession game, but I give PRP the nod at home.

J-town will likely cruise in their opener, but I like whomever wins the PRP/Butler game in that semifinal.  PRP will play with a chip on their shoulder to revenge their opening week loss @ J-town, and Butler I think is a bit tougher.

IF it is a PRP/Doss final - I like PRP's chances.  Again, I think Lado is a tough match-up for Doss down low, and PRP has had Doss number of late.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL TEAMS!!
