BluegrassPreps.com 14th Region Week 12 Review and Tournament Preview

Well just like that the season has came and gone in just a blink of an eye. The 14th Region had the drawing this morning at Breathitt County. Let's take a look at last week's district tournaments and preview the upcoming 14th Region Tournament.

53rd District:

Winner: Cordia: The Lions edged out Knott County Central in overtime 66-64 to claim the 53rd district crown last week. This marks the second time since 2018 that the Lions have won it and the third time of them being in the championship game and making it to the regional tournament.

Runner-Up: Knott County Central: The Patriots fell to the Cordia Lions in a heartbreaker last week 66-64 in overtime. With the loss, the Patriots had their two championship win streak snapped.

54th District:

Winner: Perry County Central: Perry County Central ran past Hazard 62-48 on their way to win the 54th district championship. Perry County Central comes into the regional tournament as the hottest team right now but they're road to Rupp won't be easy.

Runner-Up: Hazard: The Bulldogs fell to Perry County Central 62-48 last week on they're own home court in the 54th district championship game. Hazard comes in on a rocky slide as they have lost 2 of they're last 3 games.

55th District:

Winner: Breathitt County: The Bobcats edged out Wolfe County 67-59 in the Wolves Den to claim the 55th district crown. Breathitt snapped Wolfe County's two win championship streak.  Bobcats have won 6 of they're last 8 games.

Runner-Up: Wolfe County: The Wolves bid to win a third straight 55th district crown came up short last week when they were edged out by Breathitt County 67-59. Wolves have dropped 4 of they're last 6 games.

56th District:

Winner: Estill County: Engineers three-peat as 56th district champions. Estill edged out a fighting Powell County Pirates 60-52. Game was extremely closer than most thought. 

Runner-Up: Powell County: The Pirates bid to knock Estill off and end they're championship win streak and claim another title came up short as they fell to the Engineers 60-52 in a tremendous hard fought game.

14th Region Bracket:

Site: Breathitt County Fairce O'Woods Coliseum.

When: March 2, 3, 6, 8

March 2nd: 6 PM: Cordia vs. Hazard.

March 2nd: 8 PM: Estill County vs. Wolfe County.

March 3rd: 6 PM: Breathitt County vs. Knott County Central.

March 3rd: 8 PM: Perry County Central vs. Powell County.

March 6th: 2 & 4 PM: Semi-Finals.

March 8: 7 PM: Championship.

GM 1: Cordia vs. Hazard: Cordia comes in with a 14-11 record and Hazard comes in 18-10. Hazard knocked off Cordia 75-63 but Cordia has won 9 of they're final 11 games. Hazard has gone 1-2 in they're final 3 games. This one should be a dandy.

GM 2: Estill County vs. Wolfe County: Engineers come in at 16-12 and Wolfe at 17-11. Both teams split regular season games and both won at they're own home court. Wolfe County defeated Estill by 30 to begin the season in Campton. In February, Estill returned the favor and knocked off Wolfe 74-63 in Irvine. Wolfe County was without they're star Wilgus Tolson and Estill was without one of they're best players in Kade Benton. Estill has won 4 straight and knock on wood, has only lost 3 games since they defeated Wolfe County. Wolfe County comes in having lost 5 of they're final 8 games.

GM 3: Breathitt County vs. Knott County Central: Bobcats come in at 25-7 and Knott County Central 8-16. Bobcats have won 8 of they're final 10 games and are second hottest team in the region behind Perry County Central. Breathitt County defeated the Patriots 56-43 earlier in the season in Hindman. Knott County Central comes in having one of the worst seasons they've had under head coach BB King. The Patriots have lost 4 of they're final 6 games and they would like to forget this season but hey, it's post season basketball, which means it's a brand new season. Can the Patriots get things turned around and claim another region title?

GM 4: Perry County Central vs. Powell County: Perry County Central comes into the region tournament as the hottest team. They have done a complete turn around since last season. Commodores come into the regional tournament at 26-4 and have won 7 straight and have only lost two games in 2022. Powell County comes in at 10-20 and was riding a 3 game win streak into the 56th district championship game against Estill County but they seen that get snapped. Pirates have won 4 of they're final 6 games.
