BluegrassPreps.com 12th Region Week 9 Rankings and Review

Featured Replies

Last week saw a couple of contenders fall to out-of-region Madison Central, the continuing of Pulaski County’s undefeated season, and some pretty spectacular individual performances. This coming week is highlighted by some interesting rematches including round 2 of Boyle County versus Lincoln County.

Team Rankings

1.      Pulaski County – The Maroons have garnered attention across the state and deservedly so. They are now 21 and 0 after dispatching Clinton County and Somerset. They have defeated pretty much every 12th region contender with the exception of Boyle County, whom they play in their regular season finale. The region has developed into 4 tiers in my opinion – Pulaski on top alone, Boyle and Lincoln on the next tier, dark horse contenders and also-rans. Pulaski plays Harlan County and its second game against Rockcastle County this week.

2.      Boyle County – The Rebels lost for the first time in a long time when they fell by two to Collins and unfortunately followed that with another loss as they traveled to Madison Central. Their schedule this week doesn’t do them any favors as they travel to West Jessamine and district foe Lincoln County before squaring off with Mason County as part of the PrepSpin Classic by Mingua Beef Jerky at Mercer County.

3.      Lincoln County – The Patriots split last week, falling to Madison Central but defeating Garrard County. Tramane Alcorn had 26 points and 7 rebounds in the victory. They face district opponents Danville Christian and Boyle County before hosting Madison Southern. Their last game against Boyle County was a thriller in which the Patriots fell by 3 points.

4.      Rockcastle County – The Rockets defeated Berea and Danville fairly handily last week. Jake Sanders scored 24 and Daniel Mullins had 21 in the win over Danville. Jake Sanders’ emergence as the ultimate complement to Mullins has really made Rockcastle a legitimate threat in the region and do not be surprised if they challenge Pulaski County significantly in their rematch this week. Along with that second game against the Maroons, the Rockets host North Laurel.

5.      West Jessamine – The Colts got back to their winning ways with three wins last week, including a victory over Mercer County that clinched the 1 seed in the district. Ashton Harris had 16 points and 16 boards in the West win over Model. They face Boyle County, East Jessamine, and then Harlan County in the Jock Sutherland Classic at Lafayette.

6.  Danville Christian – Danville Christian defeated Model 79 to 50 before making their way to Richmond for their first ever trip to the All A State Tournament. They fell to Murray 54 to 45. The Warriors get no breaks coming off the tournament loss as they travel to play 3 road district games this week at Lincoln County, Garrard County, and Danville.

7.  Wayne County – The Cardinals picked up a pair of wins over Somerset Christian and Southwestern. They face Casey County, McCreary Central, and Pickett County (TN) this week.

8.        McCreary Central – The Raiders defeated Somerset Christian by 4 this past week. Kyle Stephens had 33 in the victory. They host Somerset this week before traveling to Wayne County.

9.      Garrard County – The Golden Lions may be on their way up. They defeated Danville and Madison Southern and lost by only 10 to Lincoln County last week. Earlier in the month they had fallen by 23 to Lincoln. They host Danville this week after just beating them by 4 at Danville before going on to play Danville Christian and Casey County.

10.      Danville – The Ads’ losing streak continues as they fell to Garrard County and Rockcastle County. They look to bounce back this week with a rematch of the Garrard game and a home match against Danville Christian, another district team they have already lost to this year.

11.  Somerset – The Briar Jumpers fell to Madison Southern and Pulaski County in a pair of blowouts last week. They look to right the ship with road trips to McCreary Central and Clinton County.

12.  Mercer County – The Titans defeated East Jessamine and Nicholas County but fell to West Jessamine by 5. They face Whitley County, Burgin and Anderson County this week.

13.  Casey County – The Rebels fell to Adair County by 1 and blew out Somerset Christian. They face Green County, Wayne County, Garrard County, and Frankfort Christian this week.

14. Somerset Christian – The Cougars fell to McCreary County, Wayne County and Casey County last week. They face Southwestern on the road this week.

15.  Southwestern – The Warriors lost to Estill County and Wayne County last week. They play Somerset Christian and Bryan Station this week.

16.  East Jessamine – After not having a home game since December 17th, the Jaguars had three of them last week. None of them turned out to be wins. They have a really challenging week this week with a road game at George Rogers Clark, a home game against crosstown rival West Jessamine, and a home game against Taylor County.

17.  Burgin – The Bulldogs were on Covid protocols last week and forfeited three games. They are scheduled to play four games this week against Frankfort, Williamstown, Mercer County, and Jackson County.

Teams are starting to take shape. Right now see the district seeds like this. Will be interesting to see the Danville/Garrard match 2 &  DCA/Garrard matchup. Lincoln/Boyle 2 will also be a dandy. Ads have to start making a move.

Boyle 1

Lincoln 2

Garrard 3

DCA 4

Danville 5
