With the blink of an eye, the season is winding down quickly. We are in district play and are at the end of January with just a few weeks left in the regular season. Let's take a peak at the 14th region from week 8.

 

1) Perry County Central (17-2):

Commodores continue rolling: Perry County Central picked up two big wins by a lot, last week, defeating both Wolfe County 69-45 and Buckhorn 89-26. With both wins, Perry County Central's win streak extends to 7 straight.

Upcoming Schedule: Wednesday at Letcher County Central, Friday vs. Magoffin County, Saturday vs. Pulaski County (at Rockcastle County Rocket Classic).

2) Breathitt County (14-4):

Bobcats drop two straight: Coming into last week, Breathitt County was hot and riding a 11 game win streak but that would be snapped as they would drop both games last week. Wolfe County 66-65 and Highlands 86-68. 

Upcoming Schedule: Thursday vs. Lyon County (at EKU McBrayer Arena, KHSAA All "A" State Tournament).

3) Wolfe County (14-6):

Wolves split two: Wolves split two last week, falling to Perry County Central 69-45 but defeating district rival, Breathitt County 66-65 in a thriller. Wolves are 3-2 in they're last 5 games.

Upcoming Schedule: Tuesday at Jackson City, Friday vs. Letcher County Central, Saturday vs. South Laurel (at Bell County Classic).

4) Hazard (13-5):

Hazard picked up win #13 last week: The Bulldogs defeated Cordia 75-63 to pick up win #13 last week. Hazard has now won two straight and 3 of they're last 4 games.

Upcoming Schedule: Tuesday at Knott County Central, Thursday at Leslie County (District Game), Saturday vs. Letcher County Central.

5) Knott County Central (4-10):

Patriots still struggling: Knott County Central dropped they're second straight game last week, falling 59-43 to Betsy Layne. They have now lost 4 of they're last 5 games and they only have 4 wins on the season.

Upcoming Schedule: Tuesday vs. Hazard.

6) Cordia (5-8):

Cordia drops two: Cordia dropped both games last week, falling 75-63 to Hazard and in a high scoring game, 128-103 to Harlan County. Harlan County's Trent Noah exploded for 66 points. 22/26 FG, 3/7 3pt, 13/16 FT. Cordia's Naz Welch finished with 32. 13/17 FG, 6/10 FT.

Upcoming Schedule: Tuesday at Knox Central, Thursday at Clay County, Friday at Belfry.

7) Letcher County Central (8-10):

Cougars go 2-2 last week: Letcher County Central split they're four games last week, falling to both Floyd Central 54-47 and Harlan County 80-68 but defeating both Lee County 75-60 and Powell County 84-59.

Upcoming Schedule: Wednesday vs. Perry County Central, Friday at Wolfe County, Saturday at Hazard.

8 ) Estill County (7-9):

Engineers pick up big district win, fall by 27: Estill County picked up a big district win on Friday of last week, defeating Powell County 59-47 but falling to Bell County on the road on Saturday by 27, 74-47. Engineers improve to 3-0 in district play. They have two games left with Powell and Lee. They had a third game but the game with Owsley that was postponed hasn't gotten a make up date yet.

Upcoming Schedule: Tuesday at Southwestern, Saturday at Jackson County.

9) Buckhorn (7-13):

Wildcats continue to struggle: Buckhorn fell to Perry County Central 89-26. That makes they're second straight loss and they've lost 7 of they're last 9 games.

Upcoming Schedule: Tuesday at Leslie County (District Game), Thursday vs. Red Bird.

10) Lee County (8-9):

Bobcats Pick up win, snaps losing skid: Lee County defeated Leslie County 76-58 last week, which snapped they're 4 game losing skid. 

Upcoming Schedule: Tuesday at Powell County (District Game), Friday at Owsley County (District Game).

11) Powell County (5-14):

Pirates drop eighth straight: Pirates dropped all three games last week, Menifee County 65-62, Estill County 59-47 and Letcher County Central 84-59. With the three losses, Powell County has now dropped eighth straight. They do have a covid win during this stretch but that wasn't played on the court.

Upcoming Schedule: Tuesday vs. Lee County (District Game), Saturday vs. Prestonsburg.

12) Leslie County (2-13):

Eagles have now lost 7 straight: With last week's loss to Lee County 76-58, the Eagles have now lost 7 straight and have yet to pick up a win in 2022.

Upcoming Schedule: Tuesday vs. Buckhorn (District Game), Thursday vs. Hazard (District Game), Friday at Bell County (Bell County Classic).

13) Jackson City (2-11):

Tigers drop another: Jackson City fell to Jenkins 64-59 last week, making it they're 6 straight (not counting the COVID loss).

Upcoming Schedule: Tuesday vs. Wolfe County, Saturday vs. Williamsburg.

14) Owsley County (4-12):

Owls fall to Menifee County: Owls finally got to play last week after the two COVID loss. The Owls fell to Menifee County 66-61.

Upcoming Schedule: Monday vs. LIGON COGO (KY Home School), Tuesday at Jenkins, Friday vs. Lee County (District Game).
