Border rivals clash for trophy, bragging rights

Records: Fleming County (8-4), Mason County (8-3)

Series History: Fleming County leads 26-21 all-time

Table Setter: District championship games already carry great significance as is, but when you add in the flavor a natural border rivalry, it becomes an event. Fleming and Mason have met every year since 1979, though the one scheduled for this Friday in Flemingsburg has a great deal more on the line than most.

The Panthers are seeking their fourth outright district title in the last five years, while the Royals are seeking an end to an eight year district drought.

Defense ruled the day on October 8th, when Fleming County emerged with a 12-7 win in Maysville. The Panthers sacked Royals quarterback Keshaun Thomas nine times. Containing Fleming receiver Logan Pinkley (887 yards and 11 touchdowns) should be a top priority for Mason's defense. It's a task they thoroughly succeeded at in the first meeting, holding him without a reception. It bodes well for the Panthers that they won, despite their top playmaker being shut out of their offensive gameplan.
