North Oldham 2 Woodford County 1 (8th Region Semi-Finals)

Featured Replies

While we have to offer a congratulations to Coach Poole's N.O. Mustangs, my top-ranked team in the Bluegrass, I want to devote a little more time and attention to Woodford County in this narrow defeat.

The Yellow Jackets suffer their first 8th Region loss of the year (they didn't play North Oldham in the regular season), and while they end their year 13-5-1, Woodford County came out in this game looking to send a message!  They jumped in front of the Mustangs when Antoine put in a deflection with 24 minutes remaining in the 1st half.  14 minutes later North Oldham got the equalizer, and then one more before half to enter the break up 2-1.  Woodford County played as well as they could in the 2nd half and had a number of chances to draw the game even, but couldn't get one past the keeper, and ultimately fell by that halftime score of 2-1.  Congrats to the Yellow Jackets on an AMAZING season, Coach Atanga and the young men have a ton to be proud of.

The state's best (IMHO), North Oldham, moves on to face South Oldham for the 3rd time this year.  North won the first two game 3-0 and 2-0.  North Oldham (14-0-2) puts their undefeated record on the line against South for the 8th Region Championship, and the right to host the 7th Region Champs, on Thursday night, at Carroll County HS, at 6:00.

Get there early!!
