Beechwood 3 Holy Cross 1 (35th District Semi)

Featured Replies

I missed this one, in spite of the fact that this is the identical score that Holy Cross fell to the Tigers by in the regular season.  I've thought HC looked better all year, using the eye ball test, but fair play to Beechwood, they have beaten them head-to-head twice, once on their pitch, and now once on Holmes'.

The Tigers will advance to play CovCath on Thursday night in the 35th Championship at Holmes at 7:00.  CovCath won by a 2-0 score in the regular season, at Covington Catholic, so you have to think the Tigers have an absolute chance in this one.  CovCath struggles to score, Beechwood is stout defensively, holding Highlands to 1 goal early in the season, so don't be shocked if this is another 1-0 or 2-0 type of game for CovCath.  I would be a little surprised if Beechwood is able to find the back of the net against the Colonels, but balls bounce funny ways, so you never know.

Congrats to Holy Cross on a really good season, a lot to be proud of, but unfortunately their season ends earlier than they had hoped.  They are VERY young, so look for them to be even better next year, and don't be surprised to see them advancing to the 9th Region Tourney again in 2022.
