Covington Catholic 1 Dixie Heights 0 (Soccerama)

In a game that seemed to be in doubt because of Mother Nature, the storms stayed away from the Mustang Athletic Complex and CovCath got the 1-0 result over their rivals from down Dixie Highway.

A very well played game that saw CovCath have more of the ball, but nothing to show for it in the first half, as the game was tied 0-0 at the half.  I'd say the possession stayed on the Blue Colonels' side in the 2nd half, but only narrowly, and CovCath slipped one past the Dixie keeper to jump ahead 1-0 early in the 2nd half.  Predictably, Dixie raised their urgency in the last 5 minutes or so trying to get even, but weren't able to find the net.

Both of these teams will win a lot of games this year, but both are also missing injured players, and trying to figure out rotations and playing styles.  I could see CovCath finishing anywhere between 2nd and 4th in the Region, and Dixie probably 4th or 5th, when the dust settles.

Another great night, and kudos to the Brossart faithful for doing a great job hosting this pre-season event!  While the Mustangs will play tonight versus Holy Cross in the finale, their varsity team seemed to enjoy taking in the Dixie vs CovCath game from the stands after their training session concluded.
