Jim Schue
Another dandy in the Hoopin' It Up tourney … South led by as many as 13 in the first half, but went cold (30 percent) in the second half and NE made the comeback. They were within one twice inside the final 30 seconds, but Jordan Hammonds and Ty Proffitt each hit a pair of FTs to ice it. Proffitt, after a subpar first half, scored eight points and had an assist in the fourth quarter to lift the Cardinals. NE's Rayshawn Walker had 18/13 with a couple of nasty dunks, including a steal of an inbounds pass and a baseline flush with 17.7 to play to cut it to one. He's pretty impressive. SL plays PRP at 8:15 Friday at SL for the championship. NE plays North Laurel at 6:30.
