South Oldham, last year's 8th Region runner-ups, kick off the girls' 8th Region tournament at North Oldham HS in Goshen, KY, against the Spencer County Lady Bears.

This is a rematch of the season-opener for South; they lost to Spencer in that one by 12 points, but only lost two more games after that, both by just 2 points.

Spencer had the misfortune of being in the same district as the state's #1 team, Anderson County, and comes in as a runner-up.   As such, this is the marquee first round game, between two teams that both have a realistic shot of playing in the region finals.
