District champs: - all except Collins were the pre-season picks to win their districts.

District 29 - Oldham County - won the 29th for the tenth time in 11 seasons.

District 30 - Collins - Collins has never failed to reach the region tournament in the school's 11 years of existence.

District 31 - Henry County - Passing of the torch; Henry takes over the title from Gallatin after a four-year Gallatin County run as champs.

District 32 - Simon Kenton - The Pioneers win the 32nd for the second year in a row.

District runner-ups:

District 29 - North Oldham - the Mustangs return to the Region 8 tourney for the first time since 2015.

District 30 - Anderson County - the first "5" or "6" seed in a district to make the region tourney since Eminence (31st district) in 2013.

District 31 - Owen County - the Rebels a second away from claiming the title for the first time since winning five straight from 2012-2016.

District 32 - Walton-Verona - the 2019 Region 8 champs return after a one-year hiatus.

Surprises:

Anderson County seemed dead in the water, but Bryan Hyatt has his team playing some of their best ball of the season, and the Bearcats have pulled off a very difficult trick, advancing to the region after having to get there "the long way", winning two district games.

- Spencer County - The Bears got stuck with a tough district tournament assignment, and were eliminated despite having one of the most successful regular seasons in region 8.

Players We'll Miss in New Castle:

Sam Conley, Spencer County - one of the top vote-getters in the Player of the Year balloting.

- Hunter Penn, Woodford County - The Jackets' center is one of the best big men in the region.

- Keishaun Mumphrey, Carroll County - The Panthers' double-double machine never made it to New Castle in his four seasons.   Mumphrey had a double double in every game but one this season.

- Dylan Hammonds, Grant County - like Mumphrey, a walking double-double.    Hammonds exploded onto the scene as a dominating player for the Braves - but just a sophomore!

- Ben Michel, South Oldham - 6'6" junior forward was really coming into his own late in the year.

and

- Jason Burns, Spencer County - 8th Region Coach of the Year misses the region.
