Notes

-The past couple of weeks have made generating these rankings a lot more difficult.  There's not a lot I'm certain about.  I'm certain Bowling Green is #1.  I'm certain Todd County Central is #17.  In between, it gets quite murky.  Complicating games this week include South Warren's win over Barren County, Russell County's win over Clinton County, Warren East's win over Franklin-Simpson,  and Cumberland County's win over Glasgow.  The rankings could almost more easily be put into tiers, but even between tiers, matchups are ripe for upsets.  Unless a team is playing Bowling Green (in-region).

-Speaking of Bowling Green, a very impressive streak came to an end on Saturday.  D.G. Sherrill led Bowling Green to 29 straight wins in 2016/17, and 11 straight after he retook the reins this year, meaning Sherrill had won 40 in a row as a head coach.  That ended when they ran straight into a buzzsaw on the road against Elizabethtown on Saturday, falling 64-36.  The game was very uncharacteristic for the Purples, who posted their lowest score in 13 years, and second lowest of this century.  They had only one quarter in double digits and struggled all game against Elizabethtown's pressure, and missed a lot of inside shots they normally make.  From a region perspective, nothing much has changed.  12 points is the closest result they've had against a region squad, and they trucked South Warren by 34 - a squad that is surging.  So they're mortal - let's see what the rest of the region does with that.

-South Warren managed to win the type of game that Warren Central could not the week before, taking down Barren County on the road in a very low scoring game.  The Trojans shot only 35% for the game and attempted only six free throws.  South Warren only attempted 32 shots, but hit almost 44% and were very efficient, going 5/9 from three.  The Spartans have allowed more than 55 points only twice this season, one coming against Greenwood in their season opener and the other to Bowling Green.  They may have a new coach in Jason Holland, but the team philosophy appears to be the same - control the tempo, keep the score low, focus on defense.  They're a perfect 7-0 when holding teams to less than 50 points.

-Russell County has gone streaking, winning five of seven, with the latest triumph coming over Clinton County.  It's been a few years, but the Lakers are easing back into a team that can make noise in the region.  Even in one of their losses, they took Barren County to overtime.  Scott Hamm is hitting nearly 60% of his shots in averaging 13.5 PPG and Jay Milburn is leading the team in scoring with 13.9 PPG.

-I'd like to assume that we're going to get in all the games this week, but this winter storm bearing down on the region is likely going to wipe out a good portion, if not the entire first half of the week.  Of the potential cancellations, hopefully the AC/S vs. South Warren tilt gets in.  That will be another opportunity for South Warren to continue their improvement and climb the ranks.  Late-week, the Warren Central at Greenwood matchup seems a strong opportunity to find out where teams stand.
