North rallies from a 9 point halftime deficit to beat the Dragons.

The Mustangs get the win despite not having the services of star guard, sophomore Dallas Roberts.    They did welcome back Caleb Hawley, who had been out due to a concussion.

North improves to 2-4; South falls to 3-3.

North outscored South, 17-7, in the decisive fourth quarter.

South actually only scored 16 points in the entire second half.   Very unusual for a South Oldham team that is always among the region 8 scoring leaders.

Jack Scales, who had not scored for North in the first three quarters, tallied 13 in the final quarter.

Good win for North, playing shorthanded and getting the losing streak monkey off their backs.    The season doesn't get any easier for the Mustangs; this week alone they still have to face Collins, Seneca, and #11 ranked Highlands.   They needed the boost.

South will bounce back.   The Dragons lose nothing - in terms of seeding - because of last night's game, and we'll see if it gives South a motivational edge when the District tournament comes and they play North again.  This South team is still gaining experience...and Steve Simpson has too many good shooters to stay down long.

I was curious after the game about South's point total.   The Dragons - the region's top scoring team for the last five years (including #1 in the state at 81 ppg in 2019 and #2 in the state behind Ballard last year at 77 ppg), have been such offensive juggernauts over the years, I wondered when South last scored so few points.    The answer was amazing - and a tribute to how prolific Steve Simpson's teams have been over the years....

Last time South scored so few points:   March 18, 2016, second round of the Sweet 16, the Dragons scored just 42 points in a loss to South Laurel.   South had since played 132 games without scoring so few points.

Counting last night's game and that South Laurel game, South has played 134 games since the end of the 2015-16 season:

The Dragons have scored 90+ points 21 times.... 15.7%

The Dragons have scored 80+ points 58 times ....a whopping 43.3% of the time(!)

The Dragons have been held under 60 points only 16 times, just 11.9% of the time.

(And if you're looking at trends....South has been even more explosive of late, having been held below 60 just 5 times - a mere 7.1% of the time - over their last 70 games in the last 2+ seasons.   In the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons, plus this year, the fewest points South had scored prior to last night was 59 three times)
