Highlands 78 Conner 75

Whew...what a game!

The Conner Cougars travelled to Ft. Thomas to take on the Highlands Bluebirds, and came ever so close to going home with a W but it was not to be.

For about the first 3 quarters everything was going right for the Cougars, and just about the opposite for the Bluebirds. Firstly they held Sam Vinson to one point in the first quarter where William Harold took care of the scoring duties scoring their first 8 points, ending the quarter with 11 of his total 15.

Couzins and Lohr were dynamite in the first half for the Cougars knocking down shot after shot, with their supporting cast equally as stunning in the shooting category simply putting on a clinic as well as dominating the boards. Conner ended the first quarter up 27-14, and took a commanding 16 point lead that got to as much as 18 into halftime 46-30, and at that point Vinson still only with 8 points.

In the third period Couzins and Osterbur both earned their 3rd fouls and had to sit for awhile, and this is just about the time the Vinson led Birds began to make their move ending the third quarter a little closer only down 10, Conner 61-51 with Vinson up to 18.

The 4th quarter saw the trend continue with the Birds finally tying the game up at 73 with about 1:30 to go, and then with 50 seconds to go Vinson scored their go ahead basket making it 75-73 where he promptly fell over at half court getting back on defense and got up limping. He stuck it out and played the rest of the game gimpy still managing to drop in two more foul shots adding 14 more points in the 4th period, and Conner who initially played quite a stunning game just couldn’t hold on to seal the victory and there you have the final score of Highlands 78 Conner 75 with Vinson ending the night with a total of 32 points.

Great recap! Birds battled back and won in a good one! Didn’t watch 1st half, but I think #4 Leyton Reed had about 3-4 charges in the 2nd half. Obviously Vinson brought them back, but Leyton won them that game with those charges and extra possessions. Pleased with the Birds defense and decision making in the 2nd half. Muller battles down low and has taken a bigger responsibility this year on the defensive end then last year, and I love seeing him grow every game! Only person that has any business going up in the air and trying to block a shot is Sam. The rest of them need to take notes on what Reed does, especially against bigger teams like CovCath if they do end up meeting again! Go Birds!
