January 30, 20215 yr The precipitation will start as rain then if temperatures can drop fast enough it will turn the rain into light snow. For now it appears that any possible accumulations will be light and confined mainly east of I-75. I will make my first call tomorrow.
January 31, 20215 yr Author Temperatures are forecast to fall as the night progresses to the high 20s to low 30s. This will cause the rain to transition over to snow. The snow looks to continue off and on all day Monday into the morning hours on Tuesday before exiting eastern Kentucky . Accumulation totals 1-3 inches will be possible. Amounts of 4+ inches will be possible in the higher elevations of eastern Kentucky. The both the NAM and GFS are pretty much in agreement on this system. These model runs are of the same time period. One thing I have neglected to inform everyone is of a change in the GFS. The GFS used to have a difference of 6 hours between frames. It now matches the NAM 3 hour difference between frames out to 10 days in the future. Okay now for what the GFS shows. The time period covered is from 1 am EST Monday morning to 11 am EST Tuesday morning. Here's what the NAM is showing. Now for the possible snow accumulations that I mentioned. Everyone can see they pretty much match. So the morning rush hour on Monday will be difficult. Now, for another new thing I've come across. The following maps are from the Weather Prediction Center. They show the possible impacts from a winter system. The first picture explains the different categories. Now for the maps showing how this system will impact us. First, for Monday. Now for Tuesday. I will update everyone early Monday morning.
