We're off and running for the 2020/21 season. We've had a lot of surprises thus far throughout the 14th region, so let's take a look back at the opening week.

 

1) Knott County Central (4-0): The Patriots reclaimed the #1 ranking this week with their impressive showing throughout and winning the 14th Region All "A" Classic. Defeating 3 of the preseason top 5 teams. Hazard 73-64, Wolfe County 80-68, Breathitt County 78-69. The Patriots also defeated Leslie County 58-53 in the 14th Region All "A" Classic as well. Knott County Central will be on the road this week traveling to Belfry on Wednesday.d

2) Wolfe County (1-1): Wolfe County didn't have a good start like they would have hoped for. They fell in the season opener to Knott County Central 80-68 in the 14th Region All "A" classic but bounced back and defeated Bell County 72-63 on Saturday. The Wolves will be on the road this week, traveling to Hazard on Monday, Estill County on Thursday and Woodford County (at Lex Cath Tourney) on Saturday.

3) Hazard (0-2): The defending 14th Region Champions are off to a rough start for the 2020/21 season, losing both games to begin the season. Falling to Knott County Central 73-64 in the 14th Region All "A" Classic and Martin County 77-66. Hazard will be home on Monday hosting Wolfe County, at Powell County on Tuesday, at Buckhorn on Thursday and at Perry County Central on Saturday.

4) Breathitt County (3-1): Breathitt County is off and running to start to the season. They've picked up wins over Lee County 91-55, June Buchanan 71-34, Cordia 94-78. Two of those were in the 14th Region All "A" Classic. However, the Bobcats ran into a buzzsaw as they were defeated 78-69 by Knott County Central. Breathitt County was scheduled to host Perry County Central on Tuesday but the game was canceled due to Covid-19 complications. Breathitt County will travel all the way to Bardstown on Friday to take on Bethlehem.

5) Perry County Central (0-2): The Commodores are off to a rough start as well, as they have dropped their first two games of the season, falling 62-37 to Knox Central and 63-60 to Pineville, both were on the road. Perry County Central was scheduled for a game on the 8th and a game against Breathitt County on the 12th (Tuesday) but both were canceled due to Covid-19 complications. Perry County Central will be home on Saturday hosting crosstown rival, Hazard.

6) Leslie County (2-1): The Eagles picked up two wins to begin the season but also was dealt a loss too. The Eagles picked up wins over Jackson County 68-63 and Buckhorn 61-45 but fell to Knott County Central 58-53. Leslie County will travel to Clay County on Thursday before returning home to host Powell County on Saturday.

7) Buckhorn (2-1): Buckhorn opened the season by facing one of their former players who transferred to Leslie County and it wasn't the way the Wildcats had opened their season would start as they would fall 61-45 to Leslie County but the Wildcats would bounce back with two wins, defeating Lee County 69-63 and Burgin 78-34. Buckhorn will travel to Cordia on Tuesday and return home to host Hazard on Thursday.

8 )_ Estill County (1-0): The Engineers are off to a 1-0 start as they defeated Menifee County 55-33 last week. The Engineers led by as many as 25. Menifee County never saw the lead. Estill will travel to Owsley County on Tuesday for a boy girl district double header. Host Wolfe County on Thursday and Letcher County Central on Saturday.

9) Letcher County Central (1-2): The Cougars are off to a rocky start as they have dropped two of their first three games of the season. They opened the season with a heart breaking 79-76 loss to East Ridge but bounced back and defeated Lee County 76-72 before falling for the second time this season, 55-35 to Harlan County. The Cougars will be on the road this week, traveling to June Buchanan on Tuesday, Cordia on Friday and Estill County on Saturday.

10) Cordia (1-1): Cordia was scheduled to open the season with Jackson City but the game was canceled due to Covid-19 Complications. Cordia opened the season with Owsley County and it would be a win for the Lions as they defeated the Owls 60-54. Cordia would fall in the next game however, 94-78 to Breathitt County. Cordia will host Buckhorn on Tuesday, June Buchanan on Thursday and Letcher County Central on Friday.

11) Owsley County (1-1): Owsley County split the two season opening games they had, falling to Cordia 60-54  but crushing June Buchanan 68-38. Owsley County will host Estill County on Tuesday and travel to Lee County on Friday.

12) Powell County (0-0): The Pirates have yet to play a game. The two they had scheduled was canceled due to Covid-19 complications. Powell County is scheduled to host Hazard on Tuesday, host Williamstown on Friday and travel to Leslie County on Saturday.

13) Lee County (0-3): The Bobcats are off to a rough start, losing all three season opening games. Despite the losses, Lee County has kept games with Buckhorn and Letcher County Central extremely close. Lee County will travel to Jenkins on Monday, Riverside Christian on Tuesday, host Owsley County on Friday and travel to Menifee County on Saturday.

14) Jackson City (0-0): Jackson City's first three games of the season have been canceled due to Covid-19 complications. The Tigers are expected to open the season on Saturday when they host LIGHT (Danville KY Home School).

15) June Buchanan (1-2): JBS opened the season with a 51-45 win over Jenkins but dropped their next two games, 71-34 to Breathitt County and Owsley County 68-38. JBS will host Letcher County Central on Tuesday, travel to Cordia on Thursday and host Casey County on Saturday.

16) Riverside Christian (0-1): The Rams dropped their season opening game to Ligon COGO (KY Home School) 59-55. Riverside Christian will host Lee County on Tuesday and LIGON COGO (KY Home School) for the second straight time in a week on Thursday.
