Accumulating snow possible later Thursday into Friday (2/6-7/2020)

Featured Replies

Accumulating snows look to be possible late Thursday evening into the day on Friday. The NAM and GFS are showing accumulating snow possible for parts of Kentucky. They differ in the amount of accumulating snow. After the rain ends early Thursday evening The forecast temps look to fall to just below freezing Thursday evening. This will give us the possibility of snow as the precipitation looks to restart as snow.

The NAM is coming in with the snow being heavier than the GFS.

I'm not going to post anything about possible snow accumulation totals this evening because of the wide range between the models. I should be able to post my first call in the morning.

As of this morning, it appears that some could see some accumulating snow starting late Thursday evening into the day on Friday. The precipitation may start as a wintry mix before changing over to all snow. The models are consistent with the possible snow accumulations but differ some on the amounts and where it will fall.

First, let me snow what the models are showing.

Even though some of the models use different snowfall ratios they are pretty consistent except for the NAM. It is coming in with heavier snow accumulations but I think it is overdoing it some. So for my first call, I'm going with some getting from a dusting to 1 inch. A general 1-2 inches where the heaviest snow accumulations occur. I will update around midday.

This will be very quick. The latest NAM run is now in line with what the other models were showing this morning. A general 1-2". I will update once again later today.
